Salman Butt Criticizes Pakistan’s Lackluster Performance: Babar Azam Poor Captaincy

Salman Butt
Ex-Pakistan captain Salman Butt criticized Babar Azam-led team after their shameful exit from the tournament after failing to qualify for the semi-final in T20 World Cup co-hosts, the USA. The tournament was a very humbling affair and seemed especially frustrating for the Pakistani team, as the American side offered much stiffer competition.

Especially during the match held at the Prairie View Stadium in Dallas, where the foreigners handed the Pakistani side their backs.

In the final minutes of the match, the audience witnessed how competent and tenacious the USA team was to exert just as much pressure on Pakistan’s team, which was left stunned after the defeat. Thus, considering the expectations of fans and professional analysts, Salman Butt’s criticism captures the sense of letdown that leaves Pakistan thirsty for a victory in the T20 World Cup match.

During the last departure, Salman Butt objected to Pakistani players, specifically their uninterested and lazy mannerisms on the field. He noted that the players looked tired, as if they had traveled to the USA through a walking process. Salman Butt also picked lack of energy and urgency as some of the flaws in the team’s conduct, something that he said let him down on the dismissal of the team.

However, he raised an eyebrow at the treatment handed to the USA batsmen without the use of short-pitched deliveries. He lambasted the team for putting so much constructive emphasis on the mere act of long-established fast bowling, urging the side to employ wickedly invasive wicket-chucking strategies.

He also expanded the observation of placements and argued that the USA team was somehow calmer and better positioned than Pakistan.

Pakistan is now under immense pressure to come back after this defeat, given another stern test in the form of a match against their bitter rivals, India.

Reacting to the Pakistan loss, captain Babar Azam admitted that the performance of the team was below par, especially in the batting and bowling. He stated that their lack of a good start in the batting section by not utilizing the big overs that were offered to them and their inability to get wickets in the middle overs have let them down to face the tough defeat.

Babar praised the efforts of the USA team in dominating Pakistan in all kinds of playing styles and highlighted the call for consulting a professional in determining the conditions of the pitch.
