Ryan Walker Saves Day for Giants in Huge 4-3 Win

Ryan Walker, Giants

San Francisco Giants pitcher Ryan Walker has been lights out in August. On Saturday afternoon, Walker picked up the save in the Giant’s 4-3 win over the Seattle Mariners. Since taking over the closer role for San Francisco, he has been the most reliable pitcher out of their bullpen.

In the 9th inning today, Walker struck out two and got Randy Arozarena to ground out to seal the victory. For Ryan  Walker, this was coming off a performance the night before where he threw two shutout innings. He has staked his claim as the Giant’s go-to reliever.

Ryan Walker Continues Domination

Ryan Walker is having about as good of a month as you can have as a relief pitcher. Thus far in August, Walker has thrown 11.2 innings, giving up only six hits and zero earned runs. Additionally, Walker has struck out 23 batters and walked only two batters.

A few weeks ago, the Giants sent down pitcher Camilo Doval to Triple-A. Since 2022, Doval had been the Giants closer and was an all-star last season. He was struggling which led to him being sent down. Doval was called back up to the big-league squad this week, but it is clear the Giants aren’t going to put him in a 9th inning while they have Ryan Walker.

The last two appearances have been the exclamation point for Ryan Walker’s dominant stretch. Last night, in the 8th inning of a tie game against Seattle with the bases loaded, the Giants gave Walker the nod. He got out of the jam and proceeded to strike out the side in the 9th inning. It was not expected for him to be available Saturday coming off of two innings of work the night prior, but the Giants put him right back out there today and he got the job done.

Desperate Giants Looking For Any Signs of Life

The San Francisco Giants are in trouble. They spent the 2nd most money out of any team this offseason and as of now, they are 4.5 games back of a playoff spot. President of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi has been in hot water the past couple of seasons and if they don’t make the playoffs this season, his time may be up. The fanbase is not happy at all as they watch the Giants’ southern California rivals continuously winning over free agents and making the playoffs every year. The Giants have missed the playoffs in six of the last seven years. Zaidi has been in San Francisco since 2018.

With 31 games remaining, they can not afford to blow any more late-game leads if they want to have a chance at playoff baseball. Ryan Walker is going to have to play a big part if the Giants are to make any noise this season.
