Ryan Garcia Big Win Tainted

Garcia

On April 20th, boxing witnessed an amazing fight. Ryan Garcia defeated Devin Haney in a thrilling matchup that saw Haney hit the canvas for the first time in his career.

Garcia did not make weight for this fight, but he was unable to claim the WBC Super Lightweight Title that was supposed to be on the line. Haney didn’t have his best fight, and Garcia took advantage.

Many people underestimated Garcia’s power and speed and didn’t think he stood a chance against Haney’s experience and proven track record. Garcia did not make weight and his antics during the weigh-in made people not take him seriously for this fight. After last year’s dismal performance against Gervonta Davis, nobody knew what to expect.

Devin Haney is still the champ, but almost two weeks after the fight’s conclusion, more controversy has emerged. Could this taint Ryan Garcia’s career?

Ryan Garcia Tests Positive

Ryan Garcia tested positive for Ostarine which is known to be a performance-enhancing drug. He tested positive for the drug twice, the day before the clash with Devin Haney and the day of the fight as well. Garcia denied taking any illegal substances in a video he posted to his social media. Haney responded by putting out a statement.

Devin Haney said this in a statement to ESPN and also released it on his social media,

“I’ve always been an advocate for clean fighting and this is an example of such. Ryan owes the fans an apology, and by his recent tweet, he still thinks this is a joke. We put our lives on the line to entertain people for a living. We don’t play boxing.”

“This puts the fight in a completely different light. Despite the disadvantage, I still fought on my shield and got back up.”

“People die in this sport. This is not a joking matter.”

Ryan Garcia Suspension Coming?

Two years ago, British Boxer Amir Khan tested positive for Ostarine and was suspended for two years by UK-Anti Doping. This substance has been banned since 2008 and Ryan Garcia should have known it was banned before using it.

The question is how bad the consequences will be for his actions now. Golden Boy Promotions, which represents Garcia, are standing by the boxer. In a statement, they stated that they believe Ryan and support his claims of not using any banned substances.
