Royal Challengers (RCB) Struggles in IPL 2024

The performance downfall of RCB in the IPL 2024 has dominated the cricket conversation. Many veterans are clueless about the Bengaluru franchise. Interestingly, Virender Sehwag and Manoj Tiwary have highlighted some of the biggest problems the players face. It’s now up to the higher authorities to take these discussions further and work towards their solutions.

Virender Sehwag highlights the fact that the unemployment of supporting staff within RCB is something to be pondered. Amid this, Flynn believes that the large number of coaching staff from abroad, particularly head coach Andy Flower and bowling coach Adam Griffith, might be an issue. This could weigh down the effectiveness of communication between the Indian team and the support personnel. Sehwag opines that this disconnect could be the reason for this, for at times it might limit the local’s ability to hit that little cork out of the ballpark.

Communication Barriers

Sehwag’s concern also revolved around the obvious linguistic’ obstacles encountered by many of our players. Especially those who may not be proficient in English. Glaringly, the team’s coaching staff mostly converses in English. It poses the question of how players who struggle with the language can successfully express their worries. Or can they ask for the much-needed motivation and guidance that is necessary for them to perform?
Sehwag highlights that to address these vulnerabilities, there should be convergence between home support staff and the Indian coaching setup. He suggests tutors or mentors who can personify the experience and connect with the group. This will hopefully fill the communication gap between the players and coaches.

Ex-player Manoj Tiwary flustered fans looking at RCB’s choices of players during bidding and team changes. Tiwary cited that the KKR franchise was especially unfamiliar with holding onto value players. As an example, Chahal, their leading wicket-taker, was just let go without a sensible retention strategy.
Not only is Tiwary discussing the shortcomings of RCB’s captaincy, but he is also comparing Kohli’s leadership with that of the previous captains of the team. Primarily, he is highlighting inconsistency as the RCB opted to retain Kohli as a captain. Though being the team’s captain is a feather in the cap for Kohli, Tiwary casts doubt on the franchise’s unflinching loyalty to a long-time captain, This could affect a team’s performance.

The match between RCB and Sunrisers Hyderabad witnessed several remarkable milestones, including Sunrisers setting a new record for the highest-ever IPL total. Travis Head’s sensational century and Heinrich Klaasen’s explosive innings contributed to this historic achievement  This showcased the formidable prowess of the Hyderabad team.

Despite commendable performances from RCB stalwarts like Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, and Dinesh Karthik, the team fell short by 25 runs, marking their sixth defeat of the season. The match also saw the highest aggregate for a T20 game, highlighting the intensity and competitiveness of the contest.
