Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes Form Surprising Alliance

Roman Reigns

The WWE SmackDown series on the USA Network started with a great ending, giving the audience a sudden twist as Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes team up. The two wrestlers, who once were bitter rivals, are teaming up to take on one of the toughest teams of the WWE, Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu, in a tag team match scheduled for Wrestlemania Bad Blood.

Unpredictable comeback of Roman Reigns

The shock partnership started to play out when Reigns made his much-awaited comeback to SmackDown. Cody Rhodes was released from a challenging steel cage victory against Solo Sikoa for his Undisputed WWE Championship. However, the celebration was short-lived as The Bloodline attacked Rhodes after the match. As much as the beatdown was nearing its peak, Roman Reigns made a run-in to eliminate the Bloodline and stop further beating on Rhodes. This event led to the formation of the much-anticipated team-up at the WWE Bad Blood event.

The build-up went to the next level on the September 20 SmackDown broadcast that went down live from the Georgia Tech field in Atlanta. In a cinematic segment, Roman Reigns, known as ‘The OTC, ’ entered a convoy of cars with much assurance as he moved to the field. Cody Rhodes joined shortly and arrived in a lovely shiny sports car, preparing to have it out with him on the mic.

Roman Reigns posed in the center of the stadium, reminiscing about the time he played football for Georgia Tech Technical College and that the field was his. He then directed the question to Rhodes by asking what he had done for Atlanta, to which Cody fired back, reminding him that the Rhodes family has been in Atlanta for quite some time now, especially when talking about their connection to the State Farm arena.

Verbal Battle and Upcoming Tag Team Showdown

There was intense rivalry between these two wrestlers, but the WWE Bad Blood match replaced it. Roman Reigns then proceeded to slap down Rhodes and repeatedly rub in the fact to him that with the power he wields in The Bloodline and with help from his new Wiseman, Jimmy Uso, nobody can stop the might of Roman Reigns and The Bloodline. He also held out the loss of his Ula Fala – a traditional sign of his previous rank as the Tribal Chief.

Cody Rhodes did not surrender and recalled Roman Reigns’s comments that his days as the Tribal Chief were down. He also pointed out that his run as the World Champion was falling apart. Rhodes teased at something bigger but made it clear he had his sights on a tag team match first. They understood that what he wants most is what he says is rightfully his: the World Championship.

A Tense Final Exchange

At the end of the segment, both these men tried to leave but stubbornly kept getting in each other’s way. Rhodes called out to Roman Reigns who responded to him with ‘No, you are in my way in life’ before leaving. So the tension went on until the end of the particular episode of SmackDown and fans were left waiting for their team-up, their showdown in WWE Bad Blood.

This surely makes for an interesting combination and the WWE universe in the audience wants to know the limits of the budding partnership between Reigns and Rhodes to counter their opponents Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu, in what could prove to be an enthralling tag team match.
