Sanju Samson Shares India ‘Champions’ Jersey to Meet PM Narendra Modi After Winning ICC Trophy T20I

India T20 World Cup-winning cricketers are wearing a special ‘champions’ jersey because they met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday. This jersey is specially designed to meet PM Narendra Modi. It features vibrant orange and blue colors, with the word ‘Champions’ embedded at the center.

It was designed for this special occasion. It commemorates India’s second T20 World Cup triumph and has an additional star added to the BCCI logo, symbolizing their two title wins.

Sanju Samson Shared the First Glimpse of this Special Jersey

Previously, India’s T20I jersey sported a single star following their inaugural title win in 2007. Adding a second star under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy marks their victory after a 17-year wait. After a long wait of 17 years, India was named the champion. India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson shared the first glimpse of this special jersey on his social media platform. As we know, he is not part of the playing XI during the tournament.

Following their return from Barbados, where they clinched the title by defeating South Africa, the Indian team arrived in New Delhi early Thursday. Their return was delayed due to Hurricane Beryl, which caused a temporary shutdown on the island. The players, coaches, and top officials of the BCCI proceeded to meet PM Modi wearing these special jerseys. Family members stay at the hotel during this official visit of the players and others.

Upon their arrival at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, hundreds of fans braved the weather to greet their heroes, holding placards and waving the national flag. Fans are anxiously waiting for the players. And at that airport, they warmly welcomed the players, coaches, and others. The team was ushered to the ITC Maurya Sheraton amidst traditional Bhangra and cheers.

Rohit Sharma: Celebratory Atmosphere

Despite exhaustion from their journey, players like Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Rishabh Pant joined in the celebrations. They interacted warmly with fans, acknowledging their support before heading to meet PM Modi. Because fans want Rohit Sharma to lift the trophy, not only this, but a lot of former cricketers also want Rohit Sharma to lift the trophy, and thus it happens, but for this, the India team has to wait a lot.

The team’s journey was closely followed by the media, capturing moments of joy and celebration. The players, visibly tired but elated, interacted with the waiting fans, expressing gratitude and sharing smiles. Suryakumar Yadav, known for his match-winning catch in the final, and Mohammed Siraj, who expressed gratitude with flying kisses, were among the most animated in responding to the crowd.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, retiring from T20Is, acknowledged the fans with gestures of appreciation before departing. With that, Ravindra Jadeja also announced her retirement from T20I. Virat Kohli announced his retirement after winning the Player of the Match award. The day’s events included a visit to PM Modi’s residence, marking a memorable conclusion to the team’s journey from the T20 World Cup victory to a warm reception back home in India.
