After Rohit and Virat announced their retirement from T20Is, fast bowler Mohammed Shami voiced his surprise. He stated it would be difficult to replace them in the team.
Fast bowler Mohammed Shami expressed his surprise and acknowledged the tremendous difficulty the team faces in replacing such legendary players.
The announcement came shortly after India won its second T20 World Cup with a thrilling seven-run victory over South Africa at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown.
Both Rohit and Virat made a stunning effort in their farewell T20 contest. And Virat received the Player-of-the-contest honors for his 76 runs off 59 deliveries.

Kohli finishes his T20I career as India’s second-highest run-scorer. He scored 4188 runs in 125 matches with an excellent average of 48.69. And a strike rate of 137.04. His contributions to the squad have been enormous, making his departure a watershed moment in the history of Indian cricket.
Virat ended his T20I career as the highest scorer. With only 4231 runs in 159 matches, as well as the record for the most hundreds in men’s T20Is via splendid tons.
India’s pacer Shami stated, “The absence of Rohit and Virat Kohli from the T20Is was surprising. They have been stalwarts for India, producing outstanding performances over the last 15-16 years and earning the title of white-ball cricket king.
Surprisingly, both are retiring at the same time, but it’s part of the natural cycle—when one athlete retires, another takes his place. However, replacing such talents on the team will be a major challenge,”
Saying farewell to a journey after accomplishing your goal is a deeply emotional experience. “I’d like to thank both Rohit and Virat for winning games for the team, playing incredible innings for India, and breaking records along the way,” he said.
Reflecting on India‘s title victory, Shami complimented Team India and its support staff and thanked supporters for supporting the team’s morale during the tournament.
According to Rohit and Virat, credit belongs to the entire Indian team. As well as committed support staff, and devoted fans, whose persistent support gives us confidence.

Being surprised by Rohit and Virat’s move, Shami expressed his gratitude toward the Indian team, “I’d like to convey my deepest congratulations to all of the players who have put in amazing effort and hard work to remain unblemished in this tournament. Their determination and perseverance have been admirable.
“I’d like to honor and congratulate those players who, while not on the field, have contributed to the team’s success in a variety of ways. Every tiny step, every moment of preparation, and every prayer from our supporters contributed significantly to our success.
It is a collaborative effort, and every input, no matter how tiny, has been invaluable. This accomplishment demonstrates everyone’s togetherness and dedication.
Only around 10% of players get an opportunity in their lives to be a part of a World Cup-winning team.”
Speaking about Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulating Men in Blue over the phone immediately following India’s victory, Shami stated, “I sincerely appreciate that our Prime Minister has a passion for the sport and extends congratulations to our champions on their wins. It greatly increases the team’s confidence.”
The Indian team, including Rohit and Virat, then proceeded to the ITC Maurya Hotel in Chanakyapuri, where they were greeted warmly once again. A cake decorated with the colors of the Indian team’s shirt was also created for the heroes.
However, thanks to a special airplane booked for Team India, they were able to land in the early hours of Thursday morning. The players are now expected to see Prime Minister Narendra Modi before participating in an open-top bus procession in Mumbai.
