But the Spurs traded Dillingham on the first night of the ’24 NBA Draft to the Timberwolves in exchange for a 2030 protected first-round pick swap and a 2031 unprotected first-round pick. Dillingham signed with the Timberwolves on July 8, 2024, alongside fellow guard Terrance Shannon Jr. Dillingham played college basketball at the University of Kentucky from 2023-24 and high school basketball at Overtime Elite from 2022-23. Rob Dillingham Discusses Growing Confidence
Rob Dillingham recently discussed his growing confidence in the NBA Summer League. When asked about his recent performances for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Dillingham said, “Really just the work.” Dillingham added, “We got a bunch of other games that didn’t go right for me. So I gotta keep coming out here with confidence and keep doing it because I know what I do. So really just really teammates helping me and my coaches.”
Dillingham’s performance on Sunday, July 22, can be described as noteworthy. But the NBA Summer League initially didn’t go in his favor in terms of scoring. He scored just four points and shot 2-for-12 in his debut game against the New Orleans Pelicans at the Thomas & Mack Center on Friday, July 12.
Rob Dillingham Goes on a Tear
Aside from Sunday’s noteworthy performance, Rob Dillingham secured his first double-double of the NBA Summer League with 25 points and 12 assists, both NBA Summer League-highs, in the Minnesota Timberwolves 115-110 win over the Orlando Magic. Minnesota’s NBA Summer League record improved to 5-1.
Dillingham reportedly feels confident heading into his first NBA season in Fall 2024 and feels like he belongs with the Timberwolves. Dillingham’s a shifty ball handler with outstanding quickness and an ability to get by the defenders and score in a hurry. His off-the-dribble three-pointers and flashy passes have impressed the public.
Dillingham will join a Timberwolves team that had the best defense in the NBA in the regular season. It will be intriguing to watch him contribute to the Timberwolves’ offense this upcoming season alongside star Anthony Edwards. After all, he’s a prolific scorer and playmaker.
