Riyan Parag Expresses Disinterest in Watching T20 World Cup

Riyan Parag, a 22-year-old boy, made history on Saturday becoming the first male cricketer from Assam to wear a blue jersey. He is the first one to be selected for the Indian cricket team from Assam. As Riyan Parag made his debut for India in the 1st T20I against Zimbabwe, it was a moment of pride for not just him but also his family.

The Indian team management made it a special occasion by calling up Parag’s father, former cricketer Parag Das, during the cap presentation. A Father’s Touch Ahead of the game, VVS Laxman handed over the India cap to Parag Das, while VVS Laxman is also the head coach for this series.

Rather than just passing it on to his son, Das placed the cap atop Riyan’s head and shook hands with him before a hug ensued. Parag Das almost breaking down in tears made this a very touching moment, something that you don’t see often. For Riyan, it was about more than just cricket. Playing for Rajasthan Royals, He scored 573 runs in 15 matches, averaging 52 with a strike rate of 149.22. His consistent performance made him a standout participant, catching the selectors’ eyes and paving the way for his India debut.  Riyan expressed his formative years dream of gambling for India.

Riyan Parag said:

The experience of wearing the India jersey and journeying with the team is different. Coming from Assam, I usually dreamt of this. Playing my first match in Zimbabwe makes it even more special.

Riyan’s dream became reality at the Harare Sports Club on July 6. He was set to bat at No. 4 in a young Indian aspect, with many senior players resting after their T20 World Cup victory. Riyan Parag made his debut for India in the 1st T20I against Zimbabwe. This was a moment of pride for not just him but also his family. This debut became not just a personal milestone but also a proud moment for Assam, celebrating its first male cricketer to symbolize India to the highest degree.

India’s captain, Shubman Gill, chose to field first on a pitch that was regarded as favorable for batting. Shubman Gill believed the pitch wouldn’t exchange a great deal, making chasing a viable alternative. The Indian XI featured sparkling faces, including debutants Abhishek Sharma, Dhruv Jurel, and Riyan Parag, adding new power to the team.

Shubman Gill (c), Abhishek Sharma, Dhruv Jurel (wk), Washington Sundar, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Riyan Parag, Rinku Singh,  Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed.

Zimbabwe playing XI:

Sikandar Raza (c), Tadiwanashe Marumani, Clive Madande (wk), Wessly Madhevere, Innocent Kaia, Brian Bennett, Dion Myers, Johnathan Campbell, Luke Jongwe, Blessing Muzarabani and Tendai Chatara.

Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, and Shivam Dube, who have been a part of the World Cup squad, will be a part of the team for the final three matches of the series.
