Boston Red Sox fans are ready to throw in the towel after watching them get destroyed with six sweeps at Fenway this month alone. With their offense attempting to heat up the letdown is that the pitching staff can’t hold off runs. Meltdown after meltdown this summer and it’s a disaster in Boston, as the Red Sox attempt to rally facing their next series versus the Toronto Blue Jays at home.
Bullpen Blues

Things aren’t looking hopeful for the Boston Red Sox despite Rafael Devers becoming the youngest Red Sox in franchise history to reach 200 home runs. With James Paxton recently placed on the 60-day IL, it looks like his season is over with a calf strain.
It’s official, the bullpen needs to make drastic changes if they have any hope in the Wildcard race. Brayan Bello was one member of the bullpen we could count on until August came around. Bello’s irregularity has left Andrew Bailey, Red Sox pitching coach, scratching his head. On Monday the Red Sox designated Joely Rodriguez for assignment to make roster space for Brad Keller. Rodriguez will be placed on waivers to find his next home, a worthy pitcher this weekend aided in keeping the Astros at bay during his minimal contribution.
The entire bullpen is crumbling as you can see with today’s update from Red Sox Stats Twitter Account:
“Meltdowns in August
4 Bernardino
4 Garcia
3 Horn
2 Sims
2 Kelly
2 Winckowski
1 Jansen
1 Keller
1 Booser
1 Criswell
21 is five more than any other team this month.”
Ouch. Despite the move, Keller is not a strong candidate for the clubhouse’s hope of turning this corner. In his 15 games this year for Boston, pitching just shy of 37 innings he has a 5.30 ERA and with the WooSox he stands strong as an opener at a 3.0 ERA. Red Sox fans and Bailey alike will be holding their breath to see if this veteran can make the impact they need. Ranked 21st out of 30 teams in the MLB for ERA, the Red Sox will have zero shot at the playoffs if this one stat doesn’t change.
Home Is Not Where The Heart Is This Season
Six sweeps at Fenway this month, can the Red Sox make a come-back? The summer has hit hard, hot, and fast in Boston this gruesome August, the Red Sox have a terrible track record at home. This is what is keeping the clubhouse from competing in the AL East. Here are the staggering facts and the reason why the Red Sox will not be a contender in the playoffs this year if they don’t make serious changes:
At Home Record: 29-36 with 286 RBIs
On The Road: 38-27 with 326 RBIs
They face their next series at home versus the Bluejays then are on the road for two series with the Tigers and Mets. It’s do-or-die time Boston, they need to come out ahead of the Bluejays in this series and crush the road games only to welcome the White Sox and Orioles at home. The clubhouse needs momentum and we can’t rely on Devers to carry the weight of scoring runs. The bullpen must step on the gas for this team before it’s too late.
Playoff Chances Look Bleak, But Not Over Yet
It would be of great service to the city if the Red Sox would pull it together and play some debilitating revenge baseball in September, climb up the rankings, and have a shot at the Wildcard position. Proper dispersal of responsibility is what any good team does, we may want to consider that this year the Red Sox may not be as good as we want them to be.
It takes a village, right? Well, it looks like we have a major issue with collective effort from the Red Sox and that has been why they are wilting in the summer heat. They are not coming together during crucial moments, we have watched them fall apart this August. As fans, we will never lose hope but we will continue to hold our breath with every at-bat. With Alex Cora’s recent extension and the ability to add to his roster in the next few days, we all continue to wonder, what will become of the Boston Red Sox this season.
