Real Madrid Pushing on Dani Carvajal’s Contract Extension

Real Madrid are reportedly nearing a contract extension for defender Dani Carvajal. Following Nacho and Toni Kroos’ departure over the summer, Carvajal has taken on a more prominent leadership role at the club.

Having spent nearly his entire career at Real Madrid, aside from a brief stint at Bayer Leverkusen, Carvajal has made 423 appearances across all competitions. In the 2023-24 season, he featured in 41 matches, helping Real Madrid win the La Liga title and the Champions League. He also played a key role in Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph.

Despite enjoying one of his best seasons, the 32-year-old has less than a year left on his current contract. In recent weeks, Carvajal has expressed his willingness to remain at Real Madrid, stating he is ready to commit to a new deal if the opportunity arises.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on his Daily Briefing podcast, the two parties are close to finalizing an agreement, with only formalities remaining. If the extension hadn’t been reached before the end of the year, Carvajal would have been free to negotiate with foreign clubs. However, his loyalty to Real Madrid has never been doubted. Carvajal has hinted that if he were to leave, it would be to a different continent rather than joining another Spanish or European team.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is eager to secure Carvajal’s future, especially with fellow veteran Lucas Vazquez, now 33, also in the final year of his contract. There has been speculation that Real Madrid might eventually target younger options like Trent Alexander-Arnold or Reece James to replace Vazquez.

Despite these talks, Carvajal has shown this season that he is still performing at a high level, making six appearances in La Liga and the Champions League, even after his summer exploits with Spain. As vice-captain to Luka Modric, who has recently turned 39, Carvajal frequently wears the captain’s armband, solidifying his status as one of the key senior figures at the club. His commitment to Real Madrid remains clear, and an official contract extension announcement seems imminent.

Why is Dani Carvajal Still Real Madrid’s Priority

Despite rumors linking Real Madrid to younger talents like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Reece James, Dani Carvajal has proven he still has plenty to offer. He has kicked off this season in strong form, making six appearances across La Liga and the Champions League, showing that his age is no barrier to performance.

With Lucas Vazquez also nearing the end of his contract, Carvajal’s role in the squad remains crucial. As vice-captain to Luka Modric, who turned 39 this year, Carvajal has frequently worn the captain’s armband. Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez recognizes the value of Carvajal’s experience and leadership, and securing him with a new contract will further strengthen the team’s foundation.
