Real Madrid filed a complaint on Monday with the Disciplinary Committee of the Spanish Football Federation following racial chants at their forward Vinicius Junior. Vinicius, 23, is among the best players in the Spanish league. However, the player has been a victim of several racist incidents in Spain.
Real Madrid have accused the referee, Juan Martinez Manuera, of ignoring the racial incident in their just-concluded match on Saturday against Ossusan.
What Was Inside the Report?
In their report, Real Madrid stated, “The referee deliberately ignored the insults and heartbreaking chants directed at our player Vincious Jr. It’s sad that our players kept pointing out what was happening at the time, but the referee didn’t act.”
“It’s for this reason that our club has found it worthy to file a complaint with the Royal Disciplinary Committee of the Spanish Football Federation.”
“Also, due to these unfortunate incidents in El Saddar, we have expanded our complaints to the State Attorney General’s Office against crimes of hate and discrimination. We request the perpetrators to be identified and necessary action taken.”
“Our players have suffered from these occurrences, and we highly condemn the acts. As a team, we need solid measures against such practices moving forward.”
Second Part of the Report
Real Madrid’s complaints didn’t end there. The second part of the report was related to the chants by Barcelona and Atletico Madrid fans. That was before last week’s Champions League ties against Napoli and Inter Milan.
A Video on social media showed fans voicing chants against Vincious Jr. Real, also alleging that Barcelona supporters sang similar songs. Vinicius reported the incident to UEFA and urged them to take action. Moreover, Real filed a similar complaint with the Spanish legal authorities, hoping for the best action.
Have There Been Any Actions Before the Latest Vinicius Jr Scenario?
Yes. Four people were fined € 60 0001 in June and handed a two-year stadium ban for hanging an effigy of Vincious near Real’s training ground. Furthermore, the other three people also got fines of € 5000. They made racist gestures against the Brazilian when Real Madrid played Valencia.
What’s Next After the Vinicius Jr. Incident?
Carlo Ancelotti has so far insisted that much has to be done to eradicate the issue. He said, “The problem is there, I believe it is. I am not going to change my opinion.”
He remarked that Valencia responded well after their incident with racism and that it is others who have to act now. He added, “When we talk about zero tolerance, it is for us and for everyone.”
