Real Madrid Cannot Sign a Record-Breaking Bundesliga Defender in 2024

Arsenal FC v FC Bayern München: Quarter-final First Leg - UEFA Champions League 2023/24 real madrid

Real Madrid is one of the giants of football in the world. They consistently win their domestic league, fight for the Champions League title, and sign some of the biggest names to ever come across the international stage. But, they may have found themselves in a bit of trouble after ‘promising’ a big deal to a defender and recanting the offer.

The last thing you want to do as a big club is leave arguably the best attacking-minded defender in the world in limbo.

Real Madrid Might Lose Alphonso Davies’s Offer

Alphonso Davies is an extremely quick, talented, and technical player who is arguably the best defender in the world. His athleticism, speed, and knowledge of the game put him head and shoulders above the ‘traditional’ outside back who only focus on defending and simple passes. Davies’ willingness to get forward, whip in crosses from outside of the box, and take players on makes him a double threat.

So, how could Real Madrid let one of the top prospects in the world slip through their fingers? Well, not all is lost for the La Liga giants.

Real Madrid apparently agreed to a deal with Davies for him to join them in the future, but the date is undetermined. Obviously, if you are the club, you want Davies as soon as possible so he can join for domestic and international competitions. But he might not join the Spanish super-side until 2025.

Currently, Davies is under contract with the German Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich. Not only is Bayern a great team, but it looks as though Davies is having fun personally and professionally. He gets along with his teammates and has played phenomenally for Bayern this year.

Real Madrid is hoping that he does not sign a contract extension with his German club in June 2025. At this point, Madrid would come in and swoop up the hot commodity. And Real Madrid do not want their fans to worry.

Fabrizio Romano with CaughtOffside gave the latest scoop on the Davies and Real saga.

‘The Alphonso Davies situation remains very clear for Real Madrid. They are waiting for Davies to answer Bayern’s contract proposal, then Real Madrid’s position is firm…they won’t spend more than 70 million euros on a player with one year left on his contract…Real would prefer to go with him now with a good price rather than wait.’

And Real would probably be better off paying a hefty sum to secure Davies on their roster now instead of waiting. After all, a desirable player such as Alphonso could be scouted by another top-tier team if Real wait.

And he is more than worth it. So far in all competitions this year, Davies has had 37 goal contributions – as a left back. That is simply unheard of for a defending position. Most wingers and strikers in their domestic league don’t achieve these types of numbers, bar Erling Haaland or Mo Salah.

Real Madrid’s Other Options

Real Madrid also has to set their sights on other potential options moving forward to secure their squad and contend for the top La Liga spot in the 2024-2025 season. The Bayern Munich defender would really bolster their ranks and lead to many attacking threats going forward.

Furthermore, Real has almost officially secured the transfer of French superstar, Kylian Mbappe. Combining the speed, pace, and tenacity of Davies and Mbappe would no doubt make Real Madrid the most attacking-minded team in the world for the upcoming season.

So, can Real secure Davies for the upcoming season? If so, we are no doubt looking at one of the most fierce squads ever in the history of football.
