Baltimore Ravens Wide Receiver Jacoby Jones Passes Away At Age 40

Baltimore Ravens-Super Bowl XLVII Champion, Jacoby Jones

The Baltimore Ravens have a long list of great players that have come through their storied franchise. Jacoby Jones played a vital role in the Ravens last Super Bowl victory back in 2013. Players such as Joe Flacco, Ray Lewis, and Ed Reed among others were a part of the Baltimore Ravens team during that year.

On July 14, former Baltimore Ravens Wideout Jacoby Jones was found dead at his place of residence in New Orleans, Louisiana. Reports detailing the cause of death were revealed on Tuesday morning by TMZ. What new details emerged?

Jacoby Jones Passes Away At Age 40

Information has been revealed by TMZ that Jacoby Jones suffered from Hypertensive Cardiovascular Disease as a result of high blood pressure. Jones was drafted in 2007 by the Houston Texans. He played five seasons before being traded to the Baltimore Ravens in 2012. Jacoby Jones was a huge playmaker in the NFL.

More notably, he made key plays for the Baltimore Ravens. As the AFC Championship Game went back and forth in 2012, he caught a 70-yard touchdown pass from Joe Flacco at the end of regulation to send the Ravens to the Super Bowl in that season. In Super Bowl XLVII,  Jones returned the opening kickoff 108 yards to get the team started, while making critical catches against the 49ers.

Former teammates of the star wide receiver expressed their condolences after hearing of his passing including Ravens Hall of Fame middle linebacker Ray Lewis stating, My brother, you will truly be missed,” Hall of Famer Ray Lewis said shortly after his Ravens teammate’s passing.

Condolences were also extended by his Head Coach John Harbaugh. The former wide receiver played a nine-year career with three different professional teams (Texans, Chargers, Ravens) before playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2015. He tallied 203 catches for 2,733 yards and 14 touchdowns. He will be remembered most for his big moments in Baltimore.

After his playing days,  Jones continued to coach wideouts and tight ends by returning to his alma mater, Lane College in 2018. His time on the football field came to an end last year in 2023 after a stint with Alabama State.

Baltimore Ravens Offense In 2024

Heading into 2024, the Baltimore Ravens are looking to get over the hump and finally win a Super Bowl title. Lamar Jackson and company have come close to obtaining that goal, but have fallen just short. They finished with a 13-4 record in 2023, falling to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game by a score of 17-10.

The Ravens quarterback struggled offensively in getting the ball out of his hands and made poor decisions throwing the football. As the 2024 preseason kicks off, they have retained some key offensive weapons in Rashod Bateman and Zay Flowers who have prior experience.

A new addition for the Baltimore Ravens is that they brought in Russell Gage on a one-year deal. He has spent time with the Atlanta Falcons and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With his injury issues slowing down his production, Russell Gage has seen some success at the wide receiver spot, despite missing the entirety of last season with a patellar tendon injury. Hopefully, they can get back to the playoffs again without any severe health problems arising in the upcoming NFL season.
