Rashid Latif Sadly Criticizes Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan to Adapt or Face Ouster

Ex-Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif once again expressed his displeasure over Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan’s current white-ball batting and said there is an urgent need for change in the approach in T20Is. Regarding that, Latif, during his YouTube broadcast, complained that this duo’s approach was not satisfactory and that he would change their approaches dramatically.

“If Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan do not change their agriculture in T20 International, then they should not be a part of the Pakistan cricket team,” Latif said confidently. Such comments highlight the necessity for Pakistan’s main stakeholders to adapt to the modern forms and trends of cricket as efficiently as possible.

Discussing Babar Azam and Rizwan, Latif pointed to the change in Indian cricket between Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the two to follow. Talking about the same, Latif said,

I could illustrate from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli where they transformed themselves.  Summarizing, Rohit altered himself with a 190-degree turn; change is doable because the new role model struck in his IPL strike rate of 130–140 was upgraded to 160 this year. He changed himself, as did Virat Kohl. If these two batters indeed turn around, anyone can.

Latif went on to emphasize the need to do this and to give Babar Azam and Rizwan a five-match dressing down to convince them of the need to change their batting line.

I would give Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan five matches to change the batting approach in T20Is, and if they do not, then there should be no place in the team for them.

Babar Azam’s captaincy was criticized

Latif also has his opinion about Babar Azam coming back as captain again, saying that has been the cause of some of the issues that have hit the team recently. You know, following that World Cup that took place in India, things should not have escalated like this.
It’s their own thinking that they removed Babar Azam, and Shaheen Afiridi came forward, but then again, Babar Azam became weak as a captain, because whoever comes to lead should lead with confidence, and it’s my opinion that Babar’s biggest mistake was to accept the captaincy again. If he continues as captain, that will be an even bigger mistake by him.

Pakistan’s Performance Under Scrutiny

The Pakistan men’s cricket team has suffered a brutal backlash after a very poor show in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they were bundled out of the group stage for the first time. This early elimination has raised a lot of questions to do with the team’s strategies and leadership, leading to demands for radical changes that would help the team come up with a competitive edge once more. The recent struggles of the team have highlighted the inability to adapt to the changing game, thus resulting in a poor show. The quality of their play has left ex-cricketers as well as the fans entirely disappointed.

These sharp observations from Latif give the impression of the necessity to introduce changes and to stress the use of approaches to the contemporary type of cricket. Whether Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan will heed this call to evolve remains to be seen, but the message is clear: change is the only constant, and either the market takes this change and assimilates it or it risks being left in the dust.
