Rashid Khan Confidently Says “Our Batting Lineup Can Chase 200 Runs Easily”

Rashid Khan Says Afghanistan 'Batting Lineup Can Chase 200 Runs'

Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan is pleased with his team’s batting strength. He feels they have a setup capable of chasing down a 200-run mark.

Afghanistan has experienced batting issues, which were evident during their T20I series against Ireland. They won the T20I series 2-1 but scored 111, 142/8, and 155/7.

As it’s clear, they only scored more than 150 runs once in three matches. But still, Rashid was confident in their batting lineup going into their T20 World Cup opener against Uganda at Providence Stadium. Afghanistan is set to begin their T20 World Cup journey against Uganda.

Rashid on Afghanistan’s Batting Skills

In a recent interview, Rashid stated,

“In the past, we were battling a little bit in the batting department. Previously, our bowlers would contribute significantly to our victories. Later, we learned about the young hitters, particularly those from Under-19 cricket, and how they rose to the national team and worked so hard.

Now our players have the option to play for Afghanistan at a very young age and then start exploring all around the world, playing leagues where they became better and better.”

Rashid believes that the mindset with which the players go out will decide if they can achieve a 200-point target. The 25-year-old also thinks that the team’s performance has improved with time.

“I believe we have a batting lineup that can handle a 200-run target on a surface. We have the ability, skills, and talent to express ourselves on the field and pursue it. Twenty20 cricket is all about the attitude.”

“Anything is achievable if you have the appropriate mentality and believe in your abilities. Then there’s cricket itself. I believe we’ve played enough cricket in recent years to see our talents improve. And we’ve been challenging the opposition,” he said.

Some fans and cricket experts believe Afghanistan will reach the last four of the ongoing World Cup 2024. Rashid acknowledged the continuing discussion about Afghanistan making it to the semifinals, saying it is a very encouraging omen for them.

“Yeah, a few people have said that Afghanistan will be there for the semifinals. That’s a really good indicator for us. Previously, we struggled to even qualify. And now to be nominated in the top four, I believe, is a significant achievement for us,” Rashid remarked.

“But we don’t look at such things very often. It’s all about how we’ll be there on the ground and deliver. We were also pretty close to making the last [ODI] World Cup semi-finals. We were only one game away from the semi-finals, and I believe that is when the notion that nothing is impossible for our squad began.

So, yes, we are really excited about the World Cup, but, as I previously stated, we will take it one game at a time and see how it goes,” Rashid continued.
