Raphael Varane has now officially signed for the newly promoted Serie A side Como. The contract that has been signed will last for two years and will be for the 2024-2025 to 2026-2027 seasons. His new team is back in the Italian domestic league after a long absence of over two decades. After securing their place in the top division for the upcoming season, they have handed the very responsible task of head coach and manager to the former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas. Just after their unrealistic promotion in the league, they contacted the Spanish coach to take over this situation and now are hoping for a very good outcome from his end.

Not a long time after his appointment, the manager began to evaluate all the possible options in the market in this season’s transfer window. He then showed keen interest in signing the player, who was then a free agent from Manchester United. Varane was in talks with the Italian side since the beginning of July, but the deal took some time to become concrete, now that he has joined them.

Drastic shift in scenery

After spending his career with one of the best clubs in the world, Real Madri, and also three years with the English giants Manchester United, Raphael Varane is set for a new adventure in Italy. The soccer player spent the 10 prime years of his career in Real Madrid and added a huge number of trophies to his collection, amassing 18. He made 360 appearances for Los Blancos and also scored 17 goals for them.

The 31-year-old has had a glorious career; from winning the World Cup to being a four-time Champions League winner, he has done it all. His mentality might have been to join the new side and play a vital role in their squad by helping them find the best possible way to remain in the professional league for the next three years at least, until his contract expires.

New beginnings for Raphael Varane

He has revealed in his latest press conference/interview that he is more than happy to be a part of Cesc Fabregas’ project, which made him sign for the Italian club. He cracked a humorous joke where he shared that he is set to meet the Spanish soccer icon, but not as an opponent anymore. The Frenchman showed his desire and passion as he stated that he is ready for medicals and hopes to join the team camp as soon as possible. Another aspect he might have analyzed could be that there’s nothing much left for him to prove in Europe, so taking up a new highly-profiled responsibility would keep him more intact and also awaken his desire to win more trophies in Italy.

How Can Como Sustain in Serie A For The Coming Years

His current landing spot is a tough league that requires a lot of team character display. If a team is to secure a spot in the league, a lot of hard work and determination are required to meet the standards. For Como, to stay in the Italian domestic league, they’ll have to put up a mixture of both experienced and young talent out on the pitch.

If not, almost every Italian team follows the defensive tactics of play, which makes the game very tight in some areas. This proves that he will bring up a lot of experience, which will hopefully live up to the expectations of producing some great results. New players are a must to be signed if the club is to flourish in the future. Fabregas and the finances also play a huge part in this task. Raphael Varane has an interesting challenge ahead.
