Rahul Dravid’s positive ‘USA leg for T20 World Cup’ stance

Rahul Dravid

The idea of having a USA cricket board has received a greater response. Former India coach and WC-winning coach Rahul Dravid has supported the addition of the USA leg in the tournament. The recently concluded T20 World Cup’s USA phase had its fair share of challenges and problems, as minor as the quality of pitches to more serious issues like low crowd sizes, except for the Indian team games. This was published earlier this month with reports stating that the International Cricket Council (ICC) was on the verge of inactivating USD $20 million due to organizing the event, most probably in the United States of America.

All the group-stage matches of Team India were played in America, and they competed against Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA. The last group match they played against Canada in Florida was washed out. The circumstances and preparations for the USA have come under criticism in the past, but the former coach of India remains cheerful about the ordeal. In a recent panel discussion titled ‘Cricket at the Olympics.’ The criticism was aimed at their slow batting, making it difficult to score freely during Test matches, but he took it on the chin and replied, saying that cricket has offered them the opportunity to a ‘Dawn of a New Era’ with the addition of the sport in the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

Perspective on venue challenges

Rahul was candid, especially about the venues in the USA, stressing the quality of the facility and match/fixture availability. Regarding the so-called compromises, he insisted that such kinds of solutions are inevitable if one wants to host a large-scale sporting event in a relatively young stadium. He said that even if the conditions were not perfect, they were all relevant to the process of continuing the globalization of cricket. It will be hard to face the challenges in the beginning, but they will be countered slowly as they grow and become familiar to people. The US still needs a bit of time to regulate cricket, but soon, there will be a relatable change.

 Game timing and fairness

These criticisms included the choice of early times for the matches and its general failure to meet the fans’ expectations. However, after facing criticisms for these early bowl starts, like 10:30 in the morning during the Australian series, the winning coach was asked questions, and he also replied that these early times did not in any way influence his coaching style or the team’s play. Rahul, who was joined by ICC CEO Geoff Allardice during the discussion, commended the ICC for its bold move to bring the World Cup to the USA.

Statement of Rahul Dravid coming to fruition

He acknowledged the significant effort involved in exposing American audiences to cricket and highlighted the potential growth of the sport in the region. It was without any sort of doubt a great achievement for the ICC to arrange a tournament like the T20 World Cup in the USA and introduce the game in a part of the world where it is not famous. It was a very devastating and amazing experience for all the teams that played in the USA and participated in the T20 World Cup. The former coach was confident enough to say cricket would soon become one of the most famous games in that region. Cricket will draw a large number of fans from this part of the world.
