Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Shine Again: As Gurbaz Hits the Record of Sensational Virat Kohli

Rahmanullah Gurbaz

Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran will share records in New Zealand and Afghanistan T20 World Cup matches in 2024. Both pairs set a record in men’s T20 world cup history by scoring a partnership of two hundred + in a single match. It was similar to India’s Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s type of performance back in 2014 only.

Both Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran once again batted well when they first played against Uganda in Group C, scoring a colossal 154-run partnership. In the match against New Zealand, they increased their combined score by another 103 runs and provided a spectacular performance of consistency.

The stand against New Zealand was one of the best 100-run aggregates ever witnessed in one day and equalled the record of India’s Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. This achievement highlights the splendid understanding between Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim, who form part of Afghanistan’s Openers.

The highlight of the series opener: Rahmanullah Gurbaz became the highest run scorer in the T20 World Cup 2024 with a spectacular knock of 80 off only 56 balls. This brilliant display of power hitting came after a scintillating inning of 76 runs against Uganda, which established him as one of the strongest openers in the tournament.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz got the requisite support from Ibrahim Zadran, who played a sensible knock of 44 runs off 41 balls. His contribution was vital to setting up Afghanistan’s total, especially when the pitch in Guyana was not easy to bat upon. Ibrahim Zadran recently posted 70 runs against Uganda and still manages to create an impact on the team regularly.

Afghanistan dominated New Zealand through fielding, where the Kiwi’s continued with their tradition of dropping catches and failing to make run-outs in the power stakes. The Afghans profited from some soft groundings, which in turn enabled both Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran to get on with the carnage of the scoring.

Afghanistan’s Dominance Continues

Rahmanullah Gurbaz

A splendid performance from Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran ensured Afghanistan was able to put up a decent score of 159/9 in their 20 overs.

To this end, Afghanistan’s bowlers kept the pressure on newly-formed New Zealanders Fazalhaq Farooqi and Rashid Khan, who stormed through in the powerplay.

Champion opening bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi, who also took three wickets up to the powerplay, helped Afghanistan cloak the match. Early successes saw New Zealand on the back foot, leading to Afghanistan’s all-out thrashing in the one-day World Cup cricket tournament.
