Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, a significant part of IndyCar and IMSA, co-owned by former late show host David Letterman, is in hot water after their Zionsville, Indiana Headquarters was raided on Wednesday. While the reason for the raid is still unclear, it is a shock to many within and outside the IndyCar community. Because the raid was conducted as a part of a much more extensive investigation that was set to take place, agents were unable to comment on what triggered it.
Why Did the Raid at Rahal Letterman Lanigan Happen?

Earlier this year, Andretti Global, a participant in both Formula One and IndyCar, was raided in August. There’s speculation that a former employee recently moved to Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. However, there is also the assumption that a visit to Andretti in August may be connected to the incident, as a former employee recently accepted a senior engineer position with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.
As a part of the active investigation, employees were asked to remove all personal belongings from the premises and leave computers and all other electronic devices. There’s reason to speculate that the employee may still have intellectual property belonging to Andretti Global that is currently being used at RLL Headquarters. Zionsville Mayor John Stehr asked for assistance from local police and the FBI to conduct the raid.
Is RLL Headquarters Being Cooperative?
As far as it’s being reported, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing staff are fully cooperating with investigators, and hopefully, there will be some clear answers soon. Regarding a similar investigation conducted at Andretti Global Headquarters in August, there’s no news yet on whether the two are connected. RLL Headquarters has only been housed at its new Zionsville location for over a year.
Owners cannot comment, and investigators cannot give updates as the investigation is ongoing. RLL Racing has a dominant presence in the IndyCar spotlight and is gearing up for the upcoming season in March, regardless of the investigation. Owners Bobby Rahal, David Letterman, and Mike Lanigan stated they would provide information as it is available.
Final Thoughts
Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing has been a prominent fixture in the racing community with NTT IndyCar and the Weathertech IMSA series. The shocking raid and respective investigation have certainly sent a shockwave through the IndyCar community and beyond.
It puts all eyes on the racing team, with fans and fellow racers glued to their screens to discover what’s becoming of the investigation. Stay tuned for more updates regarding the reason for the investigation and whether the employee who shifted gears from Andretti Global to Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing is to blame.
