Quentin Grimes Already Learning From Dallas Mavericks

Quentin Grimes

NBA Shooting Guard Quentin Grimes is already learning from his new Dallas Mavericks teammates. Grimes, 24, previously played for the Detroit Pistons in 2024 and the New York Knicks from 2021 to 2024. The Houston and Kansas men’s basketball alum was selected 25th overall in the first round of the 2021 NBA Draft by the Knicks.

Grimes is a talented professional basketball player with various skills such as defense, catch-and-shoot, ball handling, and outside shooting. Grimes’ current state might not be one of the best, but he can be a good role player for the Mavericks. Here’s what you need to know about the 24-year-old.

Like other NBA teams, the Dallas Mavericks held their media day on Monday, September 30. Mavericks players and coaches spoke to reporters, including new Shooting Guard Quentin Grimes, who was traded to Dallas in exchange for Small Forward Tim Hardaway Jr. and three future second-round picks on July 6, 2024.

Grimes has yet to play in a regular-season game. But he has already been learning from his new Mavericks teammates, who reportedly influenced his preparation for regular-season games in the upcoming season, and feeling like a member of a second family.

Grimes told Sports Illustrated, “It’s been nothing but love since I got here from top to bottom from everybody in the organization. I’ve known most of the guys already either before the NBA or from the NBA … it’s really a family around here … I got nothing but smiles every day I step in the facility, really.”

Quentin Grimes’ Positive Experiences

Quentin Grimes’ positive experiences can play a role in his next chapter in the NBA as a part of the Dallas Mavericks. Grimes’ ability to pick up some, if not most, of the skills of his new Mavericks teammates can help him improve his game in the 2024-25 NBA season.

If Grimes picks up some or most skills from his new teammates, he can increase his role with the Mavericks sooner rather than later. And, if the Mavericks return to the NBA Finals in 2025, he can become a foundational piece to the Mavericks’ success, as his sound jump-shooting ability and ability to play defense on the perimeter can work wonders.

Quentin Grimes Can Impact Dallas Mavericks

Despite being on his third NBA team in just seven months, Quentin Grimes can positively impact the Dallas Mavericks. Grimes can impact the Mavericks on both ends of the floor. He appeared confident in his response about his possible impact in Dallas.

Grimes told reporters, “Everybody knows me as a three-and-D guy for sure, but I feel like here, with the unselfishness and the freedom that everybody has, I’ll be able to show more, like how I did in New York. When someone was down or injured, I was always able to step up and show more of my offensive game, and then defensively, just taking a matchup every single night…just trying to stop whoever is out there. If he’s the best player, a tall guy, the shortest guy, it doesn’t matter. I’m gonna take on that matchup every time I’m on the court.”

Grimes added his thoughts on the Mavericks’ offense, “You can tell shooting was an emphasis this offseason. Adding Klay [Thompson], one of the best shooters of all time, and with Kai [Kyrie Irving] and Luka [Doncic], the space is gonna be open for me to make plays off the dribble, kicking it, reading the defense, throwing lobs to the bigs…Just really being able to show my whole arsenal, my whole game being here.”
