PSG Hope to Keep Star Midfielder Amid Manchester United Rumors

PSG

Paris Saint-Germain in France is hoping to keep the same lineup in their midfield as the 2024-2025 season begins, and it seems as though they have some competition. Manchester United is looking to add another player for more depth in the center of the park, much to PSG’s dismay. But, will they be able to beat out the other top-level teams who are after this star? Only time will tell to see who wins out in the race for the creative and technical player in the midfield for United this past Premier League season.

PSG Wants to Keep Ugarte for Their Team

Paris Saint-Germain are trying to beat out other elite teams, like Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga and Manchester United in the Premier League, to sign Ugarte for their squad. They are willing to fork over more than $60 million to capture Ugarte after seeing just how well he can do in his domestic league and during Champions League matches.

Ugarte is a Uruguayan Footballer who currently plays for PSG in Ligue 1. However, PSG is seeing that it is a lot of effort to keep the 23-year-old rostered on their team for next season, as big-name clubs like Untied in the Prem and Bayern are looking to sign him for themselves. Will PSG be willing to fork over this much money to keep the young and talented midfielder, or will they sell him to get a huge financial gain?

It seems as though he could be worth the money. Ugarte has broken up play and made more tackles than any other player in the French league last year for PSG, with one tackle to stop a counterattack less than every 20 minutes. PSG will hope to keep Ugarte for next year so he can continue to build in the midfield with Xavi Simons, a young Dutch midfielder who is a creative phenomenon. Ugarte will also continue to operate with Vitinha, a player who can link up well between the attacking and defensive midfielders.

PSG ended last season in first place, winning the league by a comfortable 9 points and scoring 81 goals on the season — 13 more than the second-place team, Monaco. But, without Kylian Mbappe, they will have to focus on letting in fewer goals and being a more consistent defensive presence. This is where Ugarte comes in, as he can help break up the opposing team’s counterattacks.

On the other hand, United would benefit from a player like Ugarte. Bruno Fernandes is their midfielder who can make things happen on the ball, but he isn’t a player who will get stuck into tackles and break up play. Plus, Casemiro is aging and might not be at United for much longer, leaving a huge gap in the midfield for the Premier League team.

This defensive midfielder has shown his worth in Ligue 1 last season, making 25 appearances for the famous French club in a tough domestic showing. He also made 56 appearances for Sporting CP the prior season in the Portuguese top division, showing his consistency and proficiency in the midfield. Before joining Sporting, he made an impressive 20 appearances for Famalicao at just 20 years old.

His first senior career team was Fenix, a Uruguayan football club in the capital, Montevideo, where he played from the time he was just 15 years old until he was 19 years old. During that time, when he was still a teenager, he made 53 appearances and scored two goals for the senior squad. In addition to his proficiency as a club player in multiple leagues across the world, Ugarte has also made more than 30 appearances for his country’s national team for the U20, U23, and senior national squads.
