Premier League defending champions Man City have been under the radar of the league’s disciplinary actions. Since the Abu Dhabi royal, Sheikh Mansour took over 15 years ago, Man City has dominated England. They’ve transformed from an average English side into a formidable team. Within the past 15 years, the Cityzens have won 22 trophies.
During that 15 years, they’ve won the Premier League 7 times. And as it stands they are on the verge of winning the league 4 times in a row. A lot has been spoken about City’s dominance in the league. From their big money transfers to other financial irregularities.
In 2023 the Premier League slammed 115 financial fair play charges. However, there have been several stalls in the judgment on the case. Nonetheless, the CEO of the Premier League has assured their Judgment will appear soon.
Premier League Giants Charged 115 Breaches
Manchester City were charged in February 2023. 100 of these charges were based on the financial breaches made from 2009 to 2018. But so far Man City has denied any form of allegations. The Premier League is known to have strict rules and standards that all clubs under it must follow. A notable rule is for all clubs to spend an equivalence of what they are earning.
However, clubs tend to bend around this. One way is, clubs not giving full disclosure on how much they earn. In some cases, they tend to give the wrong account of their earnings. The Premier League has labeled that Man City has broken those laws over the space of 9 years. Going further, they stated the Manchester club refused to give accurate information about their financial dealings. Majorly on how much they’ve spent on one of their managers over a given period.
Man City is to face the Consequences soon
Since the charges have been placed on City, the Premier League has been unable to deliver any judgment yet. Although more investigations are still ongoing. There have been speculations that the Verdict for Man City will arrive in 2025. But Premier League CEO Richard Masters has pointed out in his latest interview, that it’ll occur sooner than expected.
He said “We can’t comment on the case, the date is set. The case will resolve itself at some point shortly. I can’t make any further comment on it.”
Man City has also strongly maintained its stance. Denying all allegations. Pep Guardiola affirmed in a conference in November 2023, saying “You are questioning like we have been punished.
“At this moment we are innocent until guilt is proved. I know the people want it. I know I feel it… Wait and see it and after the sentence has been done we will come here and explain it.”

There are a lot of possible punishments that could be slammed on the English Giants. The most probable Judgement is point deduction. Everton and Nottingham Forest had been an example of such. Another possibility is suspension from participating in league games. A worst-case scenario is stripping the club of its trophy. A best-case scenario is for them to pay a fine. Nevertheless, a huge fine might bankrupt the club.
More hurdles to come
Man City is on the verge of winning the league Fourth time in a row. Although they are second on the table, they have an outstanding game. A win for them in their outstanding will take them to the top. They’ll face Wolves in their next Premier League game.
