Premier League clubs have been reported to have launched complaints to the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) concerning Arsenal’s different strategies for winning games or securing needed points. So far this season the Gunners haven’t lost a game, however, they’ve been victims of Red cards on two occasions.
Firstly was against Brighton when Declan Rice was shown the second yellow for misconduct of kicking the ball away. The second time was recently against Man City which Leandro Trossard was also shown the Red Card for a similar offense. And in those games, the Gunners have scaled through with a point. However, on the pitch, Arsenal employed various tactics, ranging from time-wasting aggressive defensive displays to many more. This in return has prompted teams to launch a series of Complaints.

It was reported by Mail Sport that different clubs from the Premier League have launched a series of complaints for the PGMOL of Arsenal’s alleged use of ‘Dark Arts’ on the pitch. This was noticeable during the Gunners games, against Tottenham, Brighton, and Manchester City. In the three games, the Gunners were able to secure five points. A 1 nil win against Tottenham, a one-all draw against Brighton, and a two-all draw against City.
The complaints have been centered on Gunner’s style of play and time wasting. The complaint is to prompt the PGMOL into creating rules that may prevent the Gunners from further practicing such football tactics. However, the complaints may not hold strong grounds, as most complaints launched have not shown the Emirate club breaking any necessary football rules.
Arsenals Footballing Tactics
In the Gunner’s past few games, they’ve been more defensive, and less attacking-minded. Even without the ten men, the Gunners have lowered their activeness going forward, especially against teams known to have dangerous attacking prowess. Now Arsenal has solely relied upon their potent set-piece prowess to deliver needed goals against opponents. This worked against City and Tottenham. In light of this set-piece potency teams have complained about the methods of the setpiece, especially the corners.
It’s shown that during the Arsenal setpiece, the opponent’s goalkeeper is crowded and marked by Arsenal players, hindering him from being able to claim the floating cross and a possible unmarked center flies to deliver a header in the net. This including the time-wasting, aggressive defensive display has been the major reason the Premier League clubs have launched several complaints. However, with time, the PGMOL will give out their response to the complaints and maybe set a rule that may or may not favor Gunner’s new system of play.
What’s Ahead for the Gunners
The Gunners have rounded up their list of difficult fixtures in the league. Up next for them will be the EFL Cup. Arsenal will host Bolton in their Carabao Cup game on Wednesday. In the aftermath they’ll host Leicester in the league, to continue their Premier League campaign. The Gunners will still be without the likes of Odegaard, Merino, Zinchenko, and Tomiyasu for the time being. Mikel Arteta will hope his team can replicate the same energy to outclass the teams ahead of them
