The Savannah Bananas, the increasingly popular independent baseball team, will receive a national broadcast live from ESPN with a pair of afternoon baseball this weekend. It was announced on Thursday, July 4 that two upcoming games from Buffalo, NY will air on national airwaves during the middle of the day.
Taking a page out of the old-school baseball playbook, the Savannah Bananas are a barnstorming exhibition team that competes against partner touring teams. The motto of the Savannah Bananas is a “fan first, always entertain” experience to delight baseball fans around the world.
Two Savannah Bananas Games Featured on ESPN

A pair of Bananas home games against “The Firefighters” brings a unique, fun brand of baseball action to the national airwaves. The contests on Friday, July 5, and Sunday, July 7 will both begin at 1 pm EST. The on-field product with be “Banana Ball” – a unique, ruleset of baseball comprised of 11 wild rules, such as rule #8 – “if a fan catches a foul ball, it’s an out”.
In addition to the national broadcast schedule, the games will also be provided commercial-free on YouTube as normal for the Savannah Bananas. The YouTube channel and social media usage from the franchise have been a big reason why the Bananas have become a draw in the American sports landscape.
Over simply, Savannah does an excellent job at entertaining fans by not taking the game of baseball, or themselves, too seriously. Expect to see a rowdy crowd on the television as the Bananas have sold out every home game since 2016 representing over 285 baseball games and over 1.5 million fans to ballparks across America.

From gags like the 10-foot-9 Stilts, the World’s Tallest Pitcher, to full infield dance routines before a pitch, you never quite know what you will see when the Savannah Bananas leave the dugout. As a big hockey guy, I almost fell out of my chair when the Bananas ran toward the diamond with a catcher in full goalie pads during the 2024 NHL Playoffs!
By leveraging social media, particularly TikTok, Savannah managed to cause a stir with fun video clips that have entertained millions of baseball fans around the world. Instead of the 10-second version blaring through phone speakers, fans will have an opportunity later this week to view the Savannah Bananas showcase in a full broadcast format.
Savannah has also been very wise in leveraging appearances from former MLB players such as pitchers Roger Clemens and Roy Oswalt, as well as position players like Johnny Damon and Shane Victorino. Non-baseball athletes, such as WWE’s John Cena, have also appeared in front of Savannah Bananas baseball crowds.

In February, the Savannah Bananas started the 2024 Banana Ball World Tour back in Tampa Bay. In the months that have passed, baseball fans in California, New Mexico, Oklahoma, New York, and Las Vegas have had the opportunity to experience the joy of a unique brand of baseball.
Savannah Bananas games occur between Thursday – Sunday featuring up to three games in the city of the World Tour. Three months are remaining on the 2024 Banana Ball World Tour with several new cities like Cleveland, Louisville, and Philadelphia still to experience the unique hardball event.
In mid-October, the Bananas make world history as they launch “Bananaland At Sea”, a week-long baseball-themed cruise outing that intends to bring all of the antics of Banana Ball to the open ocean. The cruise sails to and from Miami, Florida to the Bahamas and back over a 4-night round trip excursion.
