The ICC T20 World Cup, which this year was co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies, received high marks from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the success of the US men’s cricket team. Speaking at the Nassau Coliseum in New York during an occasion honoring the Indian diaspora, The USA participated in both the 50-over and T20 World Cups for the first time at this tournament. Players having experience in India’s U19 cricket scene were among the USA’s best players.

With six wickets, including that of Indian veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batter Mohammed Rizwan, and South African captain Aiden Markram, Saurabh Netravalkar showed brightly. Another standout performance came from Indian U19 bowler Harmeet Singh, who played for the USA and took four wickets with 69 runs in four innings after representing his country in the 2012 U19 World Cup and playing local cricket for Mumbai.

PM Narendra Modi’s US Visit

As part of his three-day tour to the US, PM Narendra Modi landed in New York on October 2. On Saturday, he had bilateral discussions with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and US President Joe Biden at the Quad Summit. “Some days back here, the T20 World Cup took place. The USA team played so well in that competition,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated.

“That team had so many Indian people living here and their contributions were witnessed by the whole world,” the Indian PM added. Sixteen matches occurred in the USA during the T20 World Cup 2024, from June 1 to June 29. In addition to Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas and Central Broward Park in Florida, there were exciting games in Nassau County Stadium in New York, including the much-awaited match between long-standing rivals India and Pakistan.

With two wins and a single loss, the USA cricket team demonstrated impressive abilities as they placed second in the Group Stages. The thrilling Super Over victory over Pakistan was one of their most memorable moments. The team also fought against India, holding them to a meager score of 111 runs on a difficult wicket.

Even though the United States lost all three of their Super Eight games, they played gallantly, particularly against South Africa, the eventual winners, where they fell short by only 18 runs while needing to reach a formidable 195. Indian U-19 bowler Harmeet Singh was another standout performer. He had played for Mumbai in local cricket and represented his country at the 2012 U19 World Cup. He took four wickets in four innings and scored 69 runs for the USA. Monank Patel, the captain of the United States, was instrumental in leading his team to a competitive total of 159/3 against Pakistan by hitting a vital half-century.

India, meanwhile, ended an agonizing 11-year drought of ICC trophies as they triumphed in the event. On Saturday, PM Narendra Modi attended the Quad Summit. He had bilateral conversations with prominent leaders such as US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. These remarks were made during the second part of PM Narendra Modi’s three-day tour of the United States. (ANI).
