Pittsburgh Steelers Make Shocking Call Regarding Trevor Lawrence

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers have reportedly called the Jacksonville Jaguars about trading for star Quarterback Trevor Lawrence this offseason. Lawrence signed a five-year $275 million contract with the team in June. It made him one of the highest-paid players in NFL history.

With such a lucrative contract comes outsized expectations. Unfortunately, Lawrence did not play well during the 2024 season. He finished with 11 touchdowns and 7 interceptions this year. He was also limited to 10 games and underwent shoulder surgery on December 17 ending his season prematurely. Lawrence also suffered a concussion that sidelined him for a few games as well. He expects to be fully healthy for the start of the 2025 season. Will the Pittsburgh Steelers and Jacksonville Jaguars make a deal?

Looking Ahead To the Pittsburgh Steelers Offseason

Pittsburgh had a disappointing end to the season after a great 10-4 start. They lost their final five games including a 28-14 Wild Card Round playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Quarterback Russell Wilson looked to regain his footing with Pittsburgh, but much like the team, limped through the final five weeks of the year.

Wilson took over for Quarterback Justin Fields after he got off to a 4-2 start. Head Coach Mike Tomlin was vindicated early with the quarterback switch, but no one was happy with how the season ended. The reporting about the Steelers calling the Jacksonville Jaguars signified one thing. Pittsburgh does not feel the answer at quarterback for 2025 is on the roster.

Final Thoughts

While a deal for Lawrence is improbable, it illustrates the Pittsburgh Steelers are willing to make a big move this offseason to help shore up the quarterback position. It has been a revolving door at the quarterback position for the Steelers in recent years. They are looking to put an end to that.

The Steelers draft No. 21. That will not allow them to grab one of the marquee quarterback prospects without trading up 15+ spots. That is not something the franchise should do. It will be an interesting offseason for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Lawrence inquiry could be the first of many moves the franchise tries to pull off.
