Pittsburgh Pirates Phenom Has Dazzling 2nd Start

Pittsburgh Pirates

During the win against the Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates sensation Paul Skenes was excellent in his second career start. Skenes was outstanding in today’s game, pitching a no-hitter to the sixth inning. The Pirates pitcher was pulled from the game after a hundred pitches were thrown but gave up the no-hitter.

While it is understandable why the manager removed him, it was a no-hitter and could have made history. It would have been a life changer for Skenes to have a no-hitter in his second career game. Pirates manager Derek Shelton, while he made the right choice, also could have had Skenes make history.

Amid a struggling season for the Pirates, rookie pitcher Paul Skenes is making an impact on the team. Skenes has been one of the top pitching prospects this season, and after his first start, is making a huge impact. In just his second start, Paul Skenes pitched a no-hitter to the sixth inning

Skenes was sensational in his start against the Cubs, striking out 11 batters in the win. The Pirates prospect during the start was locating pitches well and was overall outstanding. The performance Skenes had was excellent, with no hits given up by him in his two starts. While the sample size is small, it is remarkable that Skenes is performing at this level.

During the game, Skenes was chasing history with a no-hitter, but Derek Shelton pulled him from the game. The decision cost the Pittsburgh Pirates the no-hitter and the hard work of Skenes. While the Pirates won the game, it would have been sweeter for Skenes to get a no-hitter. The decision, while it could save his career, also took from him a potential history-making moment.

With pitchers this year getting injuries and Tommy John surgery, Derek Shelton was trying to protect his pitchers. This move is commendable due to the high velocity from Skenes’ arm and could potentially hurt him in the end. This move could help Skenes develop more and become the dominant pitcher he could be soon.

While the move might save Skenes’ career in the long term, fans want to see a no-hitter. While the combined no-hitter is good, people love the memories of one pitcher dominating. Johan Santana, while his no-hitter cost him his career, was one of the best moments in pitching history. While it was done to protect his arm, sometimes you let a pitcher try to make history.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have a future star and did the right thing to protect him, but they should have let him make history. Paul Skenes will be the future ace of this Pirates team, and it could lead to great things.

While the decision to pull him after having a no-hitter is confusing to fans, it is understandable for his health. While the selfish side of the author wants him to get a no-hitter, there is a history of pitchers falling apart after surgery. This also shows that the Pittsburgh Pirates trust Paul to lead the future of this organization.
