Three Teams Pittsburgh Penguins Tristan Jarry Could Be Traded To

Pittsburgh Penguins Tristan Jarry

Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry has received backlash from the fanbase over the past several years. Jarry still has four years remaining on his five-year deal, north of $26 million total. This was one of the biggest mistakes that general manager Kyle Dubas made in the offseason of 2023. They should have never re-signed him in the first place. Tristan Jarry was on the bench toward the end of last season in favor of Alex Nedeljkovic.

Jarry being on the bench was one of the reasons why the Penguins were able to win games down the stretch despite missing the playoffs. Head coach Mike Sullivan did not trust him in key spots. Jarry has had a history of injuries and not being clutch. At some point down the road, Joel Blomqvist will be the starting goalie for the Penguins. He is currently in the minor leagues with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL). The rise of Blomqvist is one of the reasons why Pittsburgh could trade away Jarry.

It would be hard to believe that Tristan Jarry will be on the roster four years from now. He is 29 years old. Last season in Pittsburgh, he had a 19-25-5 record with a .903 save percentage and a 2.91 GAA, along with six shutouts. Some teams will want to trade for him because some NHL teams need a goalie.

Edmonton Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers made it to the NHL Stanley Cup Finals last season with shaky goaltending. Tristan Jarry played in the WHL with the Edmonton Wheat Kings, so he is very familiar with the area. Adam Gretz of Bleacher Report gave his reasoning as to why Jarry with the Oilers would be a very good fit:

Goaltending has been a constant question mark for the Oilers throughout much of the Connor McDavid and Leon Draisiatl era. They have struggled to find any sort of consistent solution at the position.

Stuart Skinner had his moments during the Oilers’ run to the Stanley Cup Final this season, but he also had moments where he looked like a liability and put the team in a tough spot.

Both Skinner and Jarry seem like the type of goalies who would be best served if they shared the net in a platoon situation and did not have to be the unquestioned No. 1 starter. Skinner is inconsistent, while Jarry tends to wear down later in the year when he’s asked to be the full-time starter.”

San Jose Sharks

The San Jose Sharks were one of the worst teams in the NHL a season ago. San Jose is currently rebuilding, and this team could use a serviceable goalie to try to get back on the map. At the moment, MacKenzie Blackwood and Vitek Vanecek are the current goalies on the roster, but San Jose could do much better than that with a trade for Tristan Jarry.

Calgary Flames

The Calgary Flames are a team that is currently rebuilding. Calgary could be one of the worst teams in the NHL next season. Their current goalies on the roster are Dustin Wolf, Dan Vladar, and Devin Cooley. The plan for the Flames is to have Dustin Wolf be the starting goalie this year. Calgary traded Jakob Markstrom to the New Jersey Devils earlier this offseason.

Tristan Jarry would be the starting goalie right away for the Calgary Flames. The Pittsburgh Penguins could also acquire some talent from Calgary in a potential Jarry deal. The Flames have been known for trading away key players over the years. They traded away Matthew Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers a couple of off-seasons ago. Pittsburgh should give Calgary a call and see what happens.
