Report: Pittsburgh Penguins Announce Training Camp Dates

Pittsburgh Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins 2024-2025 season is less than a month away from beginning. On Wednesday, October 9, the Penguins will open the 2024-2025 season at home against the New York Rangers. Pittsburgh will have many question marks about the roster before the start of the 2024-2025 season. The Pittsburgh Penguins have yet to give Marcus Pettersson and Sidney Crosby a new contract extension. They both will have contracts expiring after this season. This seems to feel more important to the fans right now rather than when training camp will begin.

Wednesday, September 18 Begins Preseason Activities

Pittsburgh Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins will officially begin training camp on Wednesday, September 18. All non-game day practices are free and open to the public. Those practices will take place at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. The training camp will end on Friday, October 4. There will be some preseason games in between those dates. The first preseason game for the Pittsburgh Penguins will be against the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday, September 21.

Pittsburgh will have seven preseason games on the NHL calendar before beginning the 2024-2025 season. They will also face the Ottawa Senators, the Detroit Red Wings, and the Columbus Blue Jackets during the preseason. The lineups will be different for each game. It will be interesting to see how head coach Mike Sullivan will spread out the lineups with each game. Toward the end of the preseason, it is usually the players who will make the roster who will get to play.

One of the biggest stories in training camp this year for the Pittsburgh Penguins will be the goalies. There will be at least four goalies worth of interest to this fanbase. Tristan Jarry, for now, will be the starting goalie. However, Alex Nedeljkovic could steal the job from him. He was the starter toward the end of the 2023-2024 season. As for the other goalies, Sergei Murashov and Joel Blomqvist will be must-watch in practices and preseason games also. Murashov and Blomqvist will most likely be goaltending tandem with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the AHL.

One of the main reasons why Pittsburgh Penguins fans want to attend training camp is to see the big three: Evgeni Malkin, Sidney Crosby, and Kris Letang. Every year, there always seems to be a big injury with the team right when training camp happens. Hopefully, this does not happen with the Pittsburgh Penguins to start the 2024-2025 season. Training camp is always an exciting team of the year for NHL fans. The last storyline to watch for in training camp is the blue line. They struggled last year but expect to see some improvements this season for them.
