Pittsburgh Penguins: 3 Players Who Could Be Traded At the 2025 Deadline

Pittsburgh Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins enter the 2024-2025 season with high expectations once again. Toward the 2023-2024 season NHL trade deadline, Pittsburgh had to make an uncomfortable move with the roster. They traded away Jake Guentzel to the Carolina Hurricanes, but they did get Michael Bunting and other prospects in return for him. Guentzel played a huge role for the Pittsburgh Penguins when they won the 2016-2017 Stanley Cup Title. During that year, Jake Guentzel was a rookie and he has proven to be an elite player in the league ever since. Which players could the Pittsburgh Penguins trade at the deadline in 2025 if they are out of the playoff race again?

Tristan Jarry, Goalie

After this year, Tristan Jarry will have three more years remaining on his five-year contract. Jarry was rumored to be traded this offseason for Pittsburgh, but they are going to let him compete for the starting job with Alex Nedeljkovic. If Tristan Jarry plays great this season despite losing games, his value will be high and maybe they could get something decent in return for him. If Jarry is hurt or does not play well, it might be hard to trade him, unless someone would want to take a chance on him. There will be teams who will need goaltending help by the trade deadline. Pittsburgh might need to make room at some point because of Joel Blomqvist and Sergei Murashov as well.

Marcus Pettersson, Defenseman

Marcus Pettersson is entering the final year of his contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Other than Sidney Crosby, he is the most important player on the roster who needs a new contract immediately. Some could argue that he is the best defenseman on the roster outside of Erik Karlsson and Kris Letang. The problem is that Pittsburgh can not pay everybody. It would be better if Pittsburgh traded Pettersson to a contending team who needed defensive help, instead of losing him for nothing. This would upset the fanbase a lot, but it is a business at the end of the day. If Marcus Pettersson is traded from the Pittsburgh Penguins, Owen Pickering could be the one who replaces him in the lineup.

Lars Eller, Center

Lars Eller is a very valuable third and fourth-line centerman in the NHL. He won a Stanley Cup Title with the Washington Capitals during the 2017-2018 season. Eller is entering the final year of his contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He can provide third and fourth-line depth to other contending teams. Lars Eller does a lot of the dirty work and that is something other teams could use. Lars Eller could bring back a decent draft pick for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
