Pittsburgh Penguins: Sidney Crosby Has Hopes Contract Will Get Done

Pittsburgh Penguins Sidney Crosby

The Pittsburgh Penguins are looking forward to the 2024-2025 season and many questions still surround captain Sidney Crosby. Entering this season, he is entering the final year of his contract. Many are speculating what his future holds with the franchise. Will he sign a contract extension at some point? If not, could he be traded, sign elsewhere next summer, or just retire? There is a lot that still has to be decided moving forward between both parties. Crosby is one of the best players in franchise history.

Plans To Get Contract Done Before the Start Of the 2024-2025 Season

Sidney Crosby hopes that a contract will be done before the start of the 2024-2025 season for the Penguins. He was speaking to the media at an event on Monday in Las Vegas. Crosby is known for speaking to the media about big topics. His contract is one of those big topics for the Pittsburgh Penguins organization. He told Josh Yohe of The Athletic about potentially playing the 2024-2025 season without a new contract:

“No, no. I’m pretty optimistic it’s going to get done. I don’t know what day specifically. It’s been really positive. Hasn’t been a real difficult process. I’m optimistic that something will get done.”

It is very optimistic news for the Pittsburgh Penguins and its fans that Sidney Crosby has opened up about his contract talks. It will be interesting to see how long his contract will be and how much money he will get. Crosby will be entering his 20th season in the NHL. He has been in the league since 2005-2006. Sidney Crosby has accomplished a lot in his NHL career. Whenever he signs his contract, this will keep their championship window open longer. Crosby also added to Yohe about how much longer he wants to play in the NHL for:

“It’s hard. You don’t really know the trajectory of everything, how you’re going to feel mentally and physically. All you can do each is year evaluate it and go from there. When you get to this point, you understand it’s more of a reality with every year you play. You kind of check in with that, through the year, every year, evaluate it.”

It would be a turn of events for this franchise if Crosby did not sign his contract extension before the start of the 2024-2025 season. This would make Pittsburgh Penguins fans even more anxious. If Sidney Crosby did retire after the 2024-2025 season, what would it mean for players like Erik Karlsson, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang? What would it also mean to head coach Mike Sullivan and general manager Kyle Dubas? The Penguins would have to start a rebuild if Crosby did not sign his contract extension. However, it should be sooner rather than later that this contract finally gets done before the start of the 2024-2025 season.
