The Phoenix Suns had a brutal 95-120 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in game 1 of their series. Although the Suns are known for their Big Three of Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal, the Timberwolves have the league’s best defense.
The Timberwolves went on an 18-0 run in the second half as they shut down the three great Susn scorers. However, one of the Suns’ star players isn’t worried about the Game 1 loss and believes they can reclaim momentum in game 2.
Phoenix Suns Superstar Tells The Media To Calm Down
Gerald Bourguet of PHNX Sports reported Devin Booker’s mentality going into Game 2. The NBA Central X page posted the quote Booker told Bourguet: “I’m not going to say that we’ll win the next four games, but there was a lot of overreacting after we lost game 1 to the Clippers. It’s just a series.” In that quote, Devin Booker references the 2023 playoffs when the Suns played the Clippers in the first round. The Clippers won Game 1, but the Suns won the next four games.
How Did The Phoenix Suns Do In The Regular Season?
Devin Booker and the Suns won all three meetings against Minnesota in the regular season. Not only did Minnesota give up the most points they did in the regular season to the Suns (133), but they also had their worst offensive game against them, only scoring 87 points in a loss to them. Phoenix also defeated Minnesota in their season finale game 125-106.
What Phoenix Can Do Better In Game 2?
There are several things that they can improve on in Game 2. The Phoenix Suns fast-paced scoring style is great in the regular season, but the playoffs are typically played at a slower pace. They can improve on their rebounding. The Timberwolves outrebounded them 58-28 in Game 1. The defensive rebounding and defensive adjustments forced Phoenix to play at a slower pace. Booker needs to figure out how to outperform Jaden McDaniels. He had 18 points but only shot 5-16 in the Phoenix Suns Game 1 loss.
They also have to improve their three-point efficiency after losing Grayson Allen to an injury in Game 1. To lose the league leader in three-point shooting is a major loss. Although the Big 3 are fierce scorers, they must play more team ball. They delve into too many isolation plays which couldn’t confuse the Timberwolves’ sweltering defense. If the Phoenix Suns don’t fix those problems, they will lose the series in five games.
