On a thrilling Tuesday night, the Phoenix Suns got the better of the Denver Nuggets to win 117-107 in overtime, even though the Nuggets tried to fight back in the second half.
The Phoenix Suns came back from a two-game losing streak thanks to the absence of Devin Booker, Nassir Little, Damion Lee, and Josh Okogie and proved their depth and strength.
Durant’s Overtime Brilliance Secures Victory in Stunning Comeback For The Phoenix Suns
The nightstar was definitely Kevin Durant, even though he may have struggled with his shots in the game. He came through at the right time. Durant made about an amazing 35 points and eight key points in overtime for the Phoenix Suns. He got his game-tying, step-back three-pointer with 26.6 seconds left in regulation. Which was a signature shot and made him a hero of that match. Durant (14 for 34 from the floor) was conscious of the situation as well. He stated, “I knew ( game was over) as I crossed half-court, ‘I’ve got to make this shot, or this game might be over.'”
Grayson Allen from the Suns was a key player, as he made eight 3-pointers and created 28 points. Allen’s shot-making was crucial for the Suns in building an early edge. However, Denver managed to make defensive modifications towards the end of the game. Besides his last four tries going wrong, Allen’s shots were significant in his team’s victory.
Down by 22 points early in the third quarter. Denver made a spectacular comeback with Jamal Murray (28 points) and Nikola Jokic (25 points, 16 rebounds, and 5 assists) taking the lead against the Phoenix Suns. Caldwell-Pope’s go-ahead 3-pointer and Murray’s bucket made the Nuggets look like winners, but Durant’s exploits took the score to overtime.
Phoenix Suns Small Victory: Nuggets Coach Frustrated, Durant Emphasizes Celebrating Progress
Nuggets coach Michael Malone was clearly upset and somewhat comical in his assessment, as he called it “one of the worst losses we ever had.” Regardless of this loss, the Nuggets have been on a streak before this.
Jusuf Nurkic, attempting to contain Jokic, fouled out. The Suns were deprived of key personnel. They put on display their depth as well as their will to win. Allen’s sniper shots and Durant’s clutch lifelines came in handy.
This win is important for the Phoenix Suns, who are now sixth and are maneuvering on the fringe of the play-in tournament. Durant is of the opinion that small victories also need to be celebrated. He says, “If you look at the whole season, of course, the outcome at the end is always important: being in the playoffs, trying to win the championship. But all of this is important. But they should also be celebrating little things.”
Upcoming Games
On Thursday, the Phoenix Suns will challenge the Toronto Raptors. And the Nuggets will meet the Boston Celtics in their upcoming game. We can expect a really tight match where both sides are going to draw up a lot of lessons and knowledge for the rest of their NBA journey.
