In the game, Aaron Nola, the experienced pitcher of the Phillies, had his greatest moment when facing off against his old team. When Hoskins got a 2-2 count against Nola, he hit a powerful solo home run that tied the game. This marked Hoskins’ 24th home run of the season and served as a reminder of the kind of player he was during his six seasons with the Phillies, where he hit 148 home runs. A man of many at-bats against Hoskins, Nola admitted that he knew once at the plate, Hoskins was dangerous enough to hit a home run.
Speaking after the game, Nola voiced his thoughts on the home run. He smiled and said he was all too familiar with Rhys Hoskins’ batting skills. “Yeah, right when he hit it, I just kind of feel like I’ve seen that a lot on our side with him,” he explained. It’s clear Nola respects Rhys Hoskins and knows how dangerous he can be at the plate. The curveball Nola threw was a mistake, perhaps, looking back; he added after it probably wasn’t the best choice of pitch against his old teammate. For Nola, it was more of the game but more especially heartbreaking knowing that one of his former teammates has such talents in batting.
Rhys Hoskins’ Road to Recovery
2023 hasn’t been kind to Rhys Hoskins, but he’s off to an excellent start to 2024 with the Brewers. He has already knocked in 24 home runs and driven in 73, which is no small feat considering he’s been recovering from injuries lately. For this season, at least, Hoskins shows that he still possesses that in-him sense that made him Philadelphia fans’ heartthrob.
Even though the Philadelphia Phillies and Rhys Hoskins are now rivals, it’s heartwarming to see that there’s still camaraderie and respect between them. Nola’s remarks only show the bonds they shared in Philadelphia. The fans can appreciate both of them for their past and wait for more exciting moments ahead, whether they would be wearing a similar uniform or not.
