Philadelphia Eagles Run to Super Bowl LIX

Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles completely dominated in the NFC Championship Game as they secured a 55-23 home win over the Washington Commanders and advanced to the Super Bowl for the second time in three years. This game was not close as the Eagles dominated in the second half with 28 unanswered points and were able to just have everything work to their advantage. Let’s take a deeper dive into the game and discuss the key aspects of this game.

Running Game was Elite

The Philadelphia Eagles were able to run the football at an unbelievable level against their divisional opponent as they had 34 rushing attempts for 232 yards (6.4 yards per carry) and seven rushing touchdowns. Quarterback Jalen Hurts had his second career postseason game with three rushing touchdowns as only one other quarterback has ever had a game like that in NFL history while Saquon Barkley ran 15 times for 118 yards (7.9 yards per attempt) with three rushing touchdowns of his own.

That was with the injuries on the offensive line as center Cam Jurgens did not play in the first half due to a back injury and the offensive line was beaten up a bit. However, they were able to dominate the Washington Commanders‘ defensive line and win the battle in the trenches as a result. The Philadelphia Eagles depended on the running game and this is the most points scored in an NFC Championship Game.

Defense Forces Turnovers

The Philadelphia Eagles did not only run the ball at an incredible level, they also forced the Commanders into four turnovers (three fumbles, one interception). Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels had a great game himself but the rest of the team had a bit of a rough time maintaining possession. The turnovers turned into points as the four turnovers resulted in the Philadelphia Eagles scoring four touchdowns on those drives.

All that is left for the Eagles to do is celebrate and prepare to watch the AFC Championship Game between the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs. The winner of that game will meet them down in New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX. Do the Eagles have what it takes to win their second Lombardi Trophy?
