Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Jalen Hurts had a game for the ages last night against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. His great performance led to him being named Super Bowl MVP and securing a 40-22 blowout. It also quieted naysayers who said he is the weak link of the Philadelphia Eagles offense. Hurts had a historic performance against a Chiefs defense that had been the strength of the team on their run to three consecutive Super Bowls.
Hurts accomplished something no quarterback had done in NFL history in the Super Bowl. He was the first quarterback to throw for 200+ yards, rush for 70+ yards, have multiple touchdown passes, rush for a touchdown, complete 75.0% of his passes, average 10.00+ yards per pass attempt, and win.
The final statline for Hurts in Super Bowl LIX was 17-of-22 with 221 passing yards and 3 total touchdowns(2 passing and 1 rushing.) He also finished as the game’s leading rusher with 72 rushing yards and broke his own record for most rushing yards by a QB in the Super Bowl. Will this be a sign of things to come for Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles offense?

The Kansas City Chiefs defense did a great job bottling up Running Back Saquon Barkley. They held Barkley to 57 rushing yards, his second-lowest output of the season. That was Kansas City’s blueprint heading into the Super Bowl and they were able to accomplish it. Barkley’s ineffectiveness put the game onto the right arm of Hurts. The star quarterback was more than up to the task last night in New Orleans. Kansas City’s defensive gameplan ultimately backfired.
Philadelphia has arguably the best receiving duo in the National Football League. DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown were a huge part of Philadelphia’s offensive onslaught. Smith finished with 69 receiving yards and a touchdown. Brown has had an interesting season in Philadelphia, and he capped it off with 43 receiving yards and a touchdown in the Super Bowl. With Barkley having a down game, Smith and Brown stepped up to the plate.
Final Thoughts
The Philadelphia Eagles have a tremendous roster which will bode well for their chances heading into next season and beyond. Hurts was questioned for much of the regular season, and he had the best game of his career on the nation’s biggest stage.
