The Philadelphia Eagles have been dealing with injuries all season. It hasn’t stopped them from winning. After starting out the season 2-2, they have won eight straight games and are in control of the NFC East. They are still chasing the Detroit Lions for the number-one seed in the conference. As they make a push for the first round bye week, they will be without one of their top pass catchers. Tight end Dallas Goedert has been placed on injured reserve, keeping him out for at least the next four weeks.
Philadelphia Eagles Place Dallas Goedert On IR
The Philadelphia Eagles have been debating all week what to do with their tight end. He has been dealing with a knee injury, and there was some optimism that he would avoid IR. The team ultimately decided to open up the roster spot and put him on the injured reserve. It doesn’t end his season. He would be eligible to return for their week 18 game against the Giants. More than likely, the Eagles will save Dallas Goedert for the playoffs. It is more important to have him available for a Super Bowl push rather than the last quarter of the regular season.
Dallas Goedert has been dealing with injuries all season and it has led to a dip in his production. He has only appeared in nine games, catching 38 passes for 441 and two touchdowns. This will happen to players every so often. Players often have years where they cannot shake nagging injuries. This seems like one of those years for the Eagles’ tight end. The good news for the Philadelphia Eagles is they have plenty of offensive firepower.
Loaded With Weapons
While Dallas Goedert is an important part of the offense, the Eagles have plenty of weapons. DeVonta Smith will be returning this week against the Panthers after being out since week 11. AJ Brown is still one of the premier receivers in the league. The biggest weapon this year has been Saquon Barkley. He is close to breaking the franchise record for rushing yards in a season and has a chance at breaking the all-time record held by Eric Dickerson.
The schedule also likely played a factor in the Philadelphia Eagles making this decision. Two of their games are against Pittsburgh and Washington, but the other three are the Panthers, Giants, and Cowboys. The Eagles have enough talent to take down these teams without Goedert. Hopefully, he will be healthy for the postseason. If the Eagles are going to make another run at a Super Bowl, they will need their full complement of weapons.
