Philadelphia 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers and the Oklahoma City Thunder jump ball at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Monday night for the first game of Salt Lake City Summer League action for both clubs.

Late-season surprise Ricky Council IV is joined by 2024 draft selections Jared McCain (#16 overall) and Aden Bona (#41) on the NBA 2K Summer League court for The Philadelphia 76ers

Oklahoma City Thunder will not have the #12 Nikola Topic available for the Summer League due to a partially torn ACL from over a year ago. However, 2024 draft picks Dillon Jones (#26 overall) and Ajay Mitchell (#38) should see the court in Utah.

How will these four rookies match up in their first professional action?

Rookies Jared McCain and Adem Bona will be joined by two-way players Justin Edward and David Jones for the games at Delta Center. Ricky Council IV enters his second professional season with a chance to hone his skills in summer camp season. Six-year veteran Tony Bradley was a surprise find on the Summer League roster.

One of the best parts of this league is getting to see rookies and older players fighting for their spot on a roster. It sometimes brings out some great basketball. Bradley’s stats haven’t been stable since arriving in the league. Hopefully, he can take this summer to get more settled and have his big moment.

This is also the first game in the Salt Lake City Summer League for OKC. The listed players for the Thunder in Utah are Adam Flagler (PG), Ajay Mitchell (PG), Alex Ducas (SG), Jack Gohlke (SG), Clarence Daniels (SF), Dillon Jones (SF), Malavy Leons (PF) and Tre Mitchell (PF).

The Thunder had a fantastic year, with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leading the helm. They broke into the playoffs, and despite the loss, it was clear that they were going to be a future problem for the rest of the NBA. Now, fans can watch their young talent compete to see who might add to this already formidable roster.

Possible Breakout Players of the Game

Philadelphia 76ers – Guard – Jared McCain

Jared McCain will get his first run in a 76ers uniform on Monday night in Salt Lake City. World-renowned for his TikTok account, the 6-foot-3 guard brings his 46% shooting and 41% 3-point percentage from college in addition to some sweet dance moves. The former Duke Blue Devils will be one to watch over the three games for Philadelphia.

McCain ended his time with Duke with 14.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.9 assists. If he can contribute this to the Summer League, the Philadelphia 76ers will be a force to be reckoned with. Perhaps this rookie can be the perfect running mate for Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid.

Oklahoma City Thunder – Forward – Dillon Jones

First-round selection Dillon Jones will have eyes on him for Oklahoma City. The Thunder forward averaged almost a double-double during his college career at Weber State with 15 points and 9.6 rebounds in 119 college games. The 2023-24 Big Sky Player of the Year will get his first opportunity to test his skills on the pro level.

Jones could be set to have a great year if he can pull things out this summer. Teams will be watching him in hopes of seeing great improvement.
