Full Game Recap: Philadelphia 76ers vs. Milwaukee Bucks

The Philadelphia 76ers lost their season opener.

The Philadelphia 76ers faced the Milwaukee Bucks without Joel Embiid and Paul George. Also, the home team started well in the first quarter but couldn’t keep up their momentum until the end against the Milwaukee Bucks. How did the Sixers season opener go?

Philadelphia 76ers vs. Milwaukee Bucks: First Half

The Philadelphia 76ers started the first quarter with athleticism. Tyrese Maxey and Kelly Oubre Jr. stood out offensively. Also, what amplified the team’s offense in the first quarter was KJ Martin’s contribution on both sides of the court. Unfortunately, KJ Martin had to go out for Caleb Martin after getting a second foul. The Sixers finished with a one-point lead against the Milwaukee Bucks 23-22.

Guerschon Yabusele came off the bench to play small ball five, replacing Andre Drummond. The Frenchman’s impact on the game couldn’t be overlooked. Though Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard dominated the basket, Yabusele made some crucial plays on the offensive and defensive ends of the court to keep the team’s momentum alive.

The Sixers started losing in the second quarter as the Bucks went on a 9-0 for about two minutes. Milwaukee’s offensive run caused the Sixers to fall down by 11. Milwaukee led 58-47 at the half. Bobby Portis was the leading scorer after the first half with 13 points. Also, Maxey paced the Philadelphia 76ers with 15 points.

Second Half Of the Game

The Philadelphia 76ers began the second half down by a substantial margin. The Milwaukee Bucks went off in the third quarter with more than 40 points to keep up with the Sixers’ momentum. Also, most of the Bucks’ points came from Damian Lillard’s three-point jumper. He accumulated 30 points in the game’s first three quarters. The third quarter ended with the Philadelphia 76ers down 19, 100-81.

Despite this loss, the Sixers didn’t back down. The team went on an 11-3 run to reduce Milwaukee’s lead. Yet, the Bucks were still dominating led by Giannis Antetokounmpo in the fourth quarter. Three minutes to the end of the fourth Jared McCain and Adem Bona made their rookie debut. Without hesitation, McCain made his first bucket. Finally, Ricky Council IV drew out some fouls, as usual, to add more points for his team.

The game ended with the Milwaukee Bucks clinching their season-opening victory against the Philadelphia 76ers 124-109. Damian Lillard was the Bucks’ top performer with 30 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Tyrese Maxey finished with 25 points, six rebounds, and three assists.

Final Thoughts

The Sixers team suffered from shooting inefficiency. They shot 41% from the field and 25% deep from downtown. Now that the rebounding issue is solved, the team needs to work on their playmaking. The Sixers had 18 assists while the Bucks had 27. Guerschon Yabusele displayed a good debut performance in the season opener. Yabusele seems to gradually fit in the backup five position. He finished with 10 points, four rebounds, three steals, and three assists.
