Philadelphia 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers No. 16 overall NBA draft pick, Jared McCain played well in his debut Summer League games against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Though the Sixers guard struggled to make any of his three-pointers, going 0-of-6 attempts, McCain still found his footing as the game progressed. At the end of the game, Jared McCain got 15 points, making 6-of-15 field goal attempts and grabbing six rebounds. The 20-year-old guard’s offensive impact in the game was good, but he didn’t pressure the opposing just offensively. Defensively, the Duke guard got two steals that enhanced the team’s offensive performance.

Then we have Ricky Council IV, who played guard for the Philadelphia 76ers last season and averaged 5.4 points per game. During his debut Summer League game, he got 29 points, making 50% of his field goals and three-point attempts. If the Memphis Grizzlies don’t defend well, Ricky could overwhelm their defense to clinch another 20+ points. Finally, the 22-year-old got eight rebounds and one block to support the team’s overall defense.

Memphis Grizzlies

Regardless of the Grizzlies’ debut loss, their first-round pick, Zach Edey got a good double-double score. The Grizzlies’ center had 14 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks. Just what the Memphis Grizzlies expect from their first-round pick. Edey’s defensive prowess and contribution helped the Grizzlies tie with the Utah Jazz at the end of the second half to force an overtime play. The Grizzlies center could impact more in this second game against the Sixers and give the opposing team’s offense a hard time.

Scottie Pippen Jr., who is in a two-way contract with the Memphis Grizzlies brought his experience to the court. The Memphis Hustle guard got 21 points and five assists. Also, to contribute to the team’s defense he clinched three steals. Jake LaRavia seconded as a top performer against the Utah Jazz. Jake, the Grizzlies’ forward, had a balanced game as he clinched 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists and steals. These offensive players could make the match against the Sixers more competitive.

Possible Breakout Players of the Game

Philadelphia 76ers

Keve Aluma came off the bench to contribute to his team’s victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Sixers forward is worth watching as he got 12 points and eight defensive rebounds while making 100% of his field goal attempts and three-pointers. Aluma’s impact off the bench helped the Sixers team have a balanced play in their Summer League debut. Currently, Keve Aluma plays in the Korean Basketball League where he averaged 13.9 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in the 2023-24 season.

Memphis Grizzlies

The 2024 NBA No. 53 overall pick, Cam Spencer tried getting into his bag against the Utah Jazz. Spencer came off the bench and contributed offensively and defensively, as he got 11 points, three assists, and rebounds with one steal. The Grizzlies’ guard could improve in his next game as he’d desire to earn his spot on the Grizzlies franchise’s team rotation roster.
