The playoff series battle between the Philadelphia 76ers and the New York Knicks was highly competitive. Though losing their first two games against the Knicks in their home, the Sixers came back strong and tried to force a Game 7, yet the Knicks dominated at the end.
Since 2001, the Phillies haven’t qualified for the Eastern Conference finals, even when they brought Joel Embiid in to contribute to their chase for this NBA championship. Thus, the Sixers must rebuild, restrategize, and come back stronger to dominate the Eastern Conference and hold on to the NBA Championship in the next season.
Philadelphia 76ers Offseason Rebuilding Potentials
The Philadelphia 76ers were strategic last season by trading off James Harden to increase their cap size and get better players. Thus, this is the best opportunity for the Sixers to double down and develop the best piece to complete their formation puzzle.
During the playoffs, we could see rising stars like Tyrese Maxey and Buddy Hield dominating and putting pressure on the Knicks, which gives the Sixers more pieces to play with in the puzzle. Joel Embiid, the Sixers MVP and main player, has been on injury management since the beginning of the 2023–24 NBA season, which restricts his flexibility and mobility.
Yet Joel performed well during the playoffs against the Knicks by bagging a triple-double in the intense Game 5 play and averaging a career-high 33 PPG and 10.8 RPG. Luckily, Joel Embiid could find his duo, Tyrese Maxey, since he expressed that he didn’t play for an extended period with most of his teammates to sync with them. Therefore, who’s the potential piece that could build a Big three-man team for the Sixers?
Philadelphia 76ers’ Pick
With a cap size of $60 million, the Philadelphia 76ers will be scouting for the best player to fit into the Joel-Tyrese duo.
According to Brain Windhorst, the Sixers should watch out for Paul George and Jimmy Butler this off-season. However, Paul George is Philly’s first choice, given the condition that he leaves the Los Angeles Clippers this season.
In his postgame interview, after the Clippers’ final loss to Dallas, Paul George got a question about his long-term future with James Harden and Kawhi Leonard. Then he responded, “Yeah, if it works that way, absolutely.”
Possibilities Looming
Paul George continued by saying:
“I’m not even focused on that; I’ve got a lot to digest myself; I haven’t gotten to that yet. I look forward to going back.” But for thinking about his future with the Clippers, he’d like to process, talk to his family, and then address the next step, as Paul George concluded by saying, “I’m not there yet.”
In the end, Paul complimented his play experience with Clipper’s elite teammates, as he believed that’s a team (his team-up with Kawhi and James) that could stand the test of time. During the regular season, Paul George played 74 games and averaged 22.6 points per game, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. Finally, in his 2023–24 playoff season, he played six games, averaging 19.5 PPG, 6.8 RPG, and 4.8 APG.
