Philadelphia 76ers Make Another Bold Offseason Move

Salt Lake City Summer League Philadelphia 76ers Duke Blue Devils

The Philadelphia 76ers’ offseason moves show how much the franchise is willing to become a solid championship team and maintain its winning culture. Thus, the signing of Jeff Dowtin Jr. isn’t an exception. Further, the 6’3 guard signed a two-way contract with the 76ers franchise after a top performance during the Summer League games.

Now, the Sixers started their Summer League exhibit at Salt Lake City, where the club finished 1-for-2 in 3 matches. However, Jeff’s performance was top-notch despite having lost in this round. Then, the teams commenced their NBA 2K25 Summer League exhibit strong to finish 4-for-1 in five games. Also, the 27-year-old guard’s performance was different during this second round of the exhibit. Thus, with this change, can Jeff make it to the 76ers’ roster?

The Philadelphia 76ers signed Jeff to their summer league team hoping to retain him for the franchise’s future. Also, the 27-year-old guard went undrafted in 2020. Further, he played for several G League teams, which solidified his experience as a player. During the Salt Lake City Summer League exhibit, Jeff displayed a stellar performance from his debut game to the team’s last games. In three games, the 6’3 guard averaged 17 points, 5.3 assists, three rebounds, and 1.3 steals. Also, Jeff made 59.4% of his field goal attempts and 50% of his three points.

After playing the first round of the summer game, Jeff’s game was different at the Las Vegas Summer Leagues exhibit. Also, the 27-year-old struggled in one part of his game, which affected his bottom line. However, there should be room for improvement while playing for the Sixers.

Jeff Declines in Performance at Las Vegas Summer League

In the Sixers’ 2K25 Summer League debut against the Detroit Pistons, Jeff Dowtin’s offensive performance contributed to the team’s overall success. The Sixers guard made 53.8% in field goals (7-of-13) with 18 points, eight assists, and five rebounds. However, Jeff’s offensive performance declined as the Sixers progressed in the 2K25 Summer League. In three games, the 27-year-old guard averaged 45%, 35.3%, and 37.5% in field goals with more attempts. Also, the Sixers guard made a low percentage on three-pointers to average 20% in four games played.

Also, during this Las Vegas Summer League, Jeff Dowtin wasn’t active defensively and averaged more turnovers (2.3) than his performance at Salt Lake City. Thus, in four games, he averaged 17.3 points, 6 assists, and 3.3 rebounds while shooting 42.1% in field goals. Now, despite this decline, two parts of the guard’s performance could make him stand out on the Sixers’ roster.

Can Jeff Make The Philadelphia 76ers’ Roster?

Yes, Jeff Dowtin Jr. should make the roster and also clinch a standard NBA contract as he progresses in his basketball career. Also, the Sixers would have a close overview of what the 27-year-old can offer the franchise. Further, Jeff can serve as a decent sixth man for the Sixers team. Now, two parts of his performance that stand out are his ability to attract fouls and convert them to points; also, Jeff has playmaking potential that could help the Sixers maintain dominance over their opposing team. Thus, despite averaging low in field goals, his aggressive offensive style should help maintain balance in the Sixers roster.

Also, though the Philadelphia 76ers have Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George, the club would desire to reduce the unavailability rate of their star players due to injury. Thus, adding a good offensive player with 3-and-D potential to the roster should balance the team and improve their players’ availability in crucial times, especially as the team aims to bounce back strong in the 2024–2025 playoff series.
