Tyrese Maxey’s Guard Ranking for the 2024-25 Season

The emergence of Tyrese Maxey was a blessing to the Philadelphia 76ers because the Sixers suffered from Joel Embiid’s absence during the 2023-24 season. The 23-year-old made an impact on the team’s overall performance as the Sixers finished with 47-35 as the seventh seed, tying with the Indiana Pacers and Orlando Magic. Also, the team had good home and away runs despite missing Joel Embiid. Thus, what should we expect from the All-Star next season?

Tyrese Maxey’s Performance and Highlights

Tyrese Maxey was one of the highlights in the 2023-24 season. The 23-year-old point guard prowess helped the Philadelphia 76ers clinch a playoff slot. Also, Tyrese improved his performance with every opportunity on the court, starting from his rookie year in the NBA league. Following this, the Sixers franchise rewarded him with a max extension where he would earn 204 million dollars in five years.

During the 2023-24 regular season, the 23-year-old point guard averaged 25.9 points, 6.2 assists, 3.7 rebounds and a steal in 70 games. During the playoffs, Daryl Morey became convinced that Tyrese Maxey is the Sixers’ future after Joel Embiid. Though the Philadelphia 76ers didn’t survive against the New York Knicks in the 2024 playoff series, Maxey maximized his performance.

The point guard’s best performance during the 2024 playoff was when he dropped 46 points in the bucket with nine assists, almost a double-double. Also, the Philly All-Star surpassed his previous career high in points by scoring 52 against San Antonio Spur during the regular season. Thus, Joel Embiid’s health issues gave birth to a rising star for the Philly franchise.

Tyrese’s Ranking and 2024-25 Season Projection

After dropping 1816 points and averaging 45% from the field with 37.3% from deep, Hoops Hype ranked Tyrese Maxey as the sixth-best point guard for the 2024-25 season. The 23-year-old ranks above Kyrie Irving and Darmian Lillard. Also, the point guards who are above him include Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Brunson, Tyrese Haliburton, and Stephen Curry.

After a stellar performance during the regular season and playoff series, the All-Star point guard earned the 2024 Most Improved Player of the season. Basketball Reference projects Tyrese to average 23.5 points, 5.3 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game in the 2024-25 season. Also, his shooting prowess should improve next season as he could average 48.6% in field goals and 39.7% from downtown.

Final Thoughts

The Philadelphia 76ers made a good investment with Tyrese Maxey this offseason. The 23-year-old has proven to evolve quickly with the little experience he has on the court. Finally with the addition of Paul George, Tyrese’s playmaking skill should improve better than last season. Also, with a healthy Joel Embiid, the Philly point guard should average more points per game.
