Philadelphia 76ers Future as Their Formidable Big-Three Combo Isn’t Complete

Philadelphia 76ers Caleb Martin

The Sixers are making big moves this offseason as Daryl Morey proposed in his offseason interview. So far, the Philadelphia 76ers’ future seems interesting with the completion of the team’s puzzle with a third piece. However, how complete is this team? Could the Sixers be unstoppable in the Eastern Conference in the 2024-25 season?

This article will address these questions. Also, the Philly franchise would need one or more pieces to complete after considering some factors that determine a solid starting team. What should we expect from the Philadelphia 76ers team in the 2024-25 season?

Philadelphia 76ers Future Outlook for the 2024-25 NBA Season

The Sixers franchise seems to be one of the NBA teams to have a successful offseason plan in progress. Another franchise in this category is the Eastern Conference New York Knicks, after signing Mikal Bridges.

In Daryl Morey’s offseason interview, he threw some hints about the kind of player he’d like to build around their dynamic duo. Now, he can cross out his building a Big-Three team from his offseason to-do list. Probably.

The Sixers’ Big-Three team now comprises Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George. Thus, how would the Phillies’ 2024-25 look like with these three on the court?

What Paul George Could Offer The Sixers

Paul George hinted at leaving the Los Angeles Clippers in his postseason interview after losing to the Dallas Mavericks in the 2024 playoffs. Though his response about his future was vague, George is now a Philly.

The former Clippers small forward desired a long-term contract which the Los Angeles Clippers couldn’t offer. Thus, with Philly’s cap size and the need to build around Maxey, the franchise offered PG 13 a four-year contract of $212 million.

Though the All-Star player’s season at the Los Angeles Clippers wasn’t anything to write home about, George still plays on a high level. With the 6’ 8 forward in the mix, the offensive burden on Maxey and Embiid should plummet drastically as he averaged 22.6 points per game last season shooting 47.1% from the field and 41.3% beyond the arc.

Also, George could play well defensively to enhance Maxey’s offensive prowess which contributes to the team’s performance. The six-times All-NBA averaged 5.2 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game last season.

Tyrese Maxey’s Contract Extension

The President of Basketball Operations for the Sixers Daryl Morey made it clear that the franchise desires to build around their dynamic duo Embiid and Maxey.

Maxey is young and an up-and-coming superstar. The one-time All-Star performance against the New York Knicks during the 2024 playoff series gave the Sixers the hope of building a Big-Three team.

The 23-year-old point guard received a long-term contract extension from the Sixers franchise. This contract extension comprised a five-year earning of $204 million.

In the 2023-24 season, the Philly point guard stepped up his games while the one-time MVP, Embiid suffered an injury. Maxey averaged 25.9 points 6.2 assists and 3.7 rebounds. With this performance, the 6’ 2 point guard could be one of the best playmakers in the 2024-25 season with Paul George in the mix.

Joel Embiid’s Injury Concerns As Next Season Approaches

The Cameronian basketballer’s Face of the Franchise and MVP status remained questionable after last season’s performance. All these sentiments came up due to his health and unavailability for the Sixers’ crucial games.

The MVP title comes with high expectations. However, Embiid’s inability to lead his team past the first round of the playoffs since he joined the Sixers questions this title achievement.

Therefore, now that PG 13 and co-star Maxey are in the Sixers’ team roster, Embiid has a better chance of showcasing an explosive performance next season. The one-time MVP’s health is sound as he will join the USA Men’s Basketball team for the Olympics.

According to Steve Kerr

We’ve been in touch with everyone, not just those three guys [Kawhi Leonard, Joel Embiid and Tyrese Haliburton]. We’ve been in communication constantly, so we expect all 12 guys to be ready to roll.

Having Maxey and George handle the offensive burden could help improve Embiid’s health throughout the 2024-25 season. Despite his minutes restriction last season, the Phillies’ power forward averaged 34.7 points and 11.0 rebounds shooting 52.9% from the field and 38.8% beyond the arc.

Final thoughts: Is the Sixers Team Complete?

In terms of offensive capabilities, the Sixers team looks outstanding. Defensively, the team is good. Thus, the 76ers franchise could add another player with a good 3-and-D skill to mix to ease the pressure on the big three teams and promote a healthy team outlook for the Sixers.

A complete team ensures a healthy team that can remain competitive throughout the regular and postseason competitions. Therefore, if the Sixers keep Buddy Hield and sign a two-way power forward, the team roster could be fluid and flexible.

Also, the Phillies will have a greater chance of contesting for the NBA Championship title next season. Some power forwards that should suit the Sixers’ roster are Miles Bridges, Bobby Portis, Marcus Morris Sr., and Robert Covington.
