The Philadelphia 76ers didn’t have a great ending to their playoff run, but it’s safe to say that they have a young star to get them their next season. Tyrese Maxey has pushed himself all season and showed consistency in every game. This kid is going to be a superstar by the time his run is done. Now, the 76ers have the opportunity to resign him. This is a big deal for the team, as Maxey is their second-best player next to star center Joel Embiid.
Without Maxey, the 76ers probably would have fallen further down the standings when Embiid got injured. He’s becoming the heart of the 76ers. Keeping him around will be crucial for the future of this team.
Tyrese Maxey’s Hot Season for Philadelphia 76ers
Maxey was a key contributor for the 76ers as he kept them afloat as much as he could, with Embiid sidelined due to injury. The fast-paced guard is an offense nightmare for any opposition. He’s also grown as a strong defender. It helps that he has an explosive energy that seems to propel him up and down the court. He isn’t afraid to make big pushes and slice down the lane and through defenders. This is what gives him a major edge.
The 76ers point guard averaged 25.9 points per game, 3.7 rebounds per game, and 6.2 assists per game. On Apil 7th, 2024, Tyrese Maxey had his career-high 52 points against the San Antonio Spurs. I have no doubt that more 50-point games will be loading up for this guard. There are times when he gets on an absolute tear, and nothing can stop him from getting a bucket. He’s the point guard of the future, and that was proven this season.
Maxey’s Consistent Improvement
This young star started his career with the 76ers when they drafted him in 2020. He was picked in round 1 at number 21. Since his first game, his stats have gone up. Season one had him at 8 points per game. However, he took a giant leap to 17.5 the next year. In all honesty, this is when Maxey should’ve won the Most Improved Player Award.
Instead, Maxey would collect the MIP Award in the most recent season due to another stat leap. This one was slightly smaller but still there. The season before, he was averaging 20.3 points per game, 3.5 assists per game, and 2.9 rebounds per game. This consistent rise in stats is a fantastic sign. Fans can most likely expect Maxey to have one or two more stat jumps as he learns and grows alongside Embiid.
Cashing In Big Time
Now, it is expected that the Philadelphia 76ers will be resigning Tyrese Maxey to a five-year $205 million contract. With an offer like this, it’s clear that Philadelphia believes Maxey can continue to impact them. Furthermore, it shows that they trust him with their future. The 76ers want a title. They have the players to get it done, and Maxey will be one of the most important pieces to get it done.
This deal isn’t a surprise. It’s well deserved, and if the guard continues to play great, I can see him being with Philadelphia for his whole career. Finding a point guard with his energy and abilities doesn’t happen often. Letting him go would be a huge mistake. Let him become a cornerstone in the organization, and see how far he can take you.
