The Philadelphia 76ers are looking to make a big move this offseason and bring the NBA Championship title home. However, it’s unfortunate that they won’t be battling with the Indiana Pacers as we’d experience the Tyrese(s) settle who comes out on top.
The president of the Philadelphia 76ers basketball operation, Daryl Morey, is uptight and on his ten toes to ensure that the Sixers come out of the offseason stronger with an outstanding team.
During Daryl Morey’s offseason interview, he expressed his setbacks during the last NBA season, his goals and strategies moving forward; finally, Daryl dropped some hints on who could be a great fit to complete the Philadelphia 76ers Big 3 team.
Daryl Morey’s Plan For The 76ers’ Offseason
Daryl Morey seemed optimistic about the Sixers’ future during the offseason as he’s excited to work with Nick Nurse to bring out the best of the Philadelphia 76ers team.
“We’re excited; we have two great studs to build around in Joel and Tyrese. Tyrese took a big leap forward this year and we think [Tyrese’s] the limit for [Joel] as [Tyrese] continues to improve. Joel was incredible for us, so we’re excited about who we’re building around.”
Daryl applauded his team and the New York Knick for the fun fight and restated that his aim for the offseason was to find the missing piece of the puzzle and build an outstanding team around Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
“We’ll be doing shorter deals and then using our draft picks to set ourselves up for trades.”
Daryl Morey explained one of the strategies he’d used in building his Big Three team. However, the shorter deal strategy could be concerning to Joel Embiid because in his post-game interview, after losing Game 6, he stressed how he never had to sync with new players the Philadelphia 76ers signed in terms of playing style.
On the other hand, since Joel got Maxey and the short-term deals may be the way forward in terms of building the team with pace.
Out of curiosity, an interviewer asked Darly if getting an old player was an option and his response gave hints to the player he’d want to make a contract with.
Morey’s Possible Pick For Philadelphia 76ers Big 3 Team
According to Daryl Morey, if signing a 35+ year old player will help get the job done for the Philadelphia 76ers then he wouldn’t mind signing a contract with them.
He further explained that the Sixers would need a good winger to complete their team-building structure. Therefore, a possible Darly Morey pick should be Kevin Durant.
According to ESPN’s Zack Lowe:
I’ll tell you this – knowing Daryl Morey, he’ll call about Kevin Durant. The vulture will circle the Phoenix; [Daryl Morey] will be a vulture.
Kevin Durant signed a contract with the Phoenix Suns as per his request in 2022 and averaged 27 points, 4.9 assists, 6.6 rebounds, and 52.7% FG in 83 games. With this good stat, Kevin Durant could be a start for Joel Embiid with Tyrese Maxey.
Just like in the Brooklyn Nets, Kevin Durant isn’t enthusiastic about his role and position in the Phoenix Suns with Booker and Bradley. Therefore Kevin Durant could desire another team if the Suns playing ain’t favorable for him and this gives the Sixers the chance to trade with the Phoenix for him.
For a Kevin Durant trade to happen, the Philadelphia 76ers need to give out some draft assets, just like Morey said in his offseason interview. Also, these assets could be Tobias Harris, Buddy Hield, D. Melton, 2024 first draft (16th Overall), 2026 and 2028 first draft.
Further, this trade could favor the Phoenix Suns in the long run because the Suns don’t have any future assets to trade with in case a need for change arises within the team. Thus, could the Suns find this deal appealing to their taste bud or not?
