PCB Overhauls Selection Committee with Sensational Babar Azam

Babar Azam

Unleashing a major revamp, PCB announced a new selection committee on Friday before the much-anticipated two-match Test series against Bangladesh. This major change came after Pakistan’s poor showing in the T20 World Cup 2024, meaning there was a need for the reconstruction of positions within the team’s organizational structure.

The new Pakistan selection committee has a balance of experience and leadership, like having captains for both the red-ball and white-ball teams, Babar Azam and Shan Masood. Head coaches of both Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie, respectively.

Cult players like Asad Shafiq and Mohammad Yousuf have been kept due to their experience. All these members will have voting rights along with the right decision-making that will transform the era of strategic planning for selection.

 Inclusion of Non-Voting Members

It will also have non-voting members, so there will be solid and full coverage in developing the conclusions. Bilal Afzal is also one of its members, as he works as an advisor to the chairman of this organization. One of the permanent staff members of this organization is Assistant Coach Azhar Mahmood. In addition, Hassan Cheema, the manager of analytics and team strategy, is expected to contribute to the aspect of analysis.

Fortunately, the selection committee is equally enriched with different qualities and skills, including Nadeem Khan. Who is the Director of High Performance, and Usman Wahla, is the Director of International Cricket.

The directed new structure should bring balance and a methodical approach to team selection and even performance appraisal. Every player has their own strengths and personal point of view, so they all work as a team.

Babar and Shaan are both expected to lead Pakistan cricket to new feet, particularly when they get ready for the Bangladesh Tests. This improved council is allocated the incredible test of patching up and keeping up with Pakistan’s cricketing plan and execution for what’s to come.

These teams resulted after such big-gun players of Pakistan as Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq bid goodbye to the Twenty20 format of the Pakistan Super League.

For this change, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wanted to excuse former pacer Wahab Riaz and all-rounder Abdul Razzaq from their selection jobs they had yet again, allegedly due to a loss of confidence.

The T20 World Cup disappointment was a rude shocker, which paved the way for Razzaq’s removal from strategic positions and likewise for Wahab, who was a senior team manager.

Immediate Focus: Bangladesh Test Series

Moving ahead, the fresh committee’s first responsibility is to select a strong team for the Bangladesh series, which is scheduled for the last week of August. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) feels these matches are crucial for the side to find its footing in the longer format again as these matches are part of the WTC 2023–25 cycle.

The first test will be played from the 21st of August to the 25th of August at the Rawalpindi cricket ground, while the second test will be held from the 30th of August to the 3rd of September at Karachi’s national stadium.

With this strategic overhaul, now that PCB has a new start on its surface, the attention of cricket fans and enthusiasts will be set on the effectiveness of these adjustments. Thus, the series against Bangladesh will be a test for the new selection committee to give concrete results for the future of Pakistani test cricket.
