Paula Badosa’s Remarkable Comeback Journey to Tennis

Paula Badosa

After her defeat at the Cincinnati Open semi-final, Paula Badosa shared a photo of herself crying. It was the time when the Spaniard was dealing with a back injury. That moment shows how far she’d come. The former world No. 2 has ended her 2023 season early with a stress fracture in her back.

The career-threatening injury left her heartbroken as shown in the emotional photo on Instagram. But she has turned things around this summer – just months after doctors told her she may never play tennis again. Badosa gave fans an insight into her journey after crashing out of the Cincinnati Open.

The Injury was All-Consuming Badosa

Paula Badosa had missed three of four major tournaments in 2023. The 26-year-old also shut down her season last July in the hopes of healing back for good. Instead, her doctor prescribed a regimen of cortisone shots that could shut off the prospect of her long career. She stated that emotionally, there have been ups and downs. “And it’s been tough for me lately,” she said.

Back in April, Badosa disclosed just how severe her back injury was. Then, the cortisol injection is the only option she could get and maybe she should be able to keep doing it if she wants to play a few more years. The Spaniard then succeeded in claiming her first WTA title in 32 months at the Mubadala Citi DC Open. Paula Badosa defeated Marie Bouzkova in a three-set final, something that would have been unthinkable at the height of her injury.

The Future Awaits for Paula Badosa

Paula Badosa has made a comeback this year since the fourth round of Wimbledon, Washington Open title, and lastly reaching Cincinnati Open semi-final to return to the top 30 in the WTA rankings. Her strategy to be more selective with the tournaments she plays has paid off. She has picked up valuable ranking points in her last two tournaments.

Her decision to skip the Paris Olympics also helped her to gain more strength and confidence she needed. Unlike last year when she missed the Australian Open due to an adductor injury. Then, she pulled out of the French Open with a stress fracture of her back. Badosa rushed back to play at Wimbledon that time, but she was forced to retire in the second round before taking an extended break from the sport.

Paula Badosa Enjoy the Most Lucrative Date Night

Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa took part in the Mixed Madness event at the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Centre. Although it was only an exhibition that was held at US Open grounds, ‘Tsisidosa’ took home $250,000 for their efforts after winning two matches. They clinched the trophy after defeating Amanda Anisimova and Taylor Fritz in the final.

Paula Badosa seemed to enjoy the performance she had made with Tsitsipas and shared their win on social media. “Best date night ever,” she wrote. It might be the good atmosphere she needed the most to start her journey at the final major of the year. Her record in New York is a disappointing one, as she never got any further than the second round. But Paula Badosa believes she can put that right when the Slams get underway next month. She will start her way at the US Open against tricky Swiss Viktorija Golubic and her one-handed backhand.
