The New England Patriots have been operating without an official General Manager and Vice President of Player Personnel since Bill Belichick was let go at the end of the 2023 regular season. That seems to have changed in recent days, as the organization has named Eliot Wolf as their VP of Player Personnel.
Eliot Wolf is the son of former Green Bay Packers General Manager Ron Wolf and, in essence, has been serving as the team’s GM since Belichick was not retained.

The New England Patriots officially announced Eliot Wolf as their Vice President of Player Personnel on Saturday. With the hiring, Wolf will be in charge of the Patriots personnel department, salary cap management, and the 53-man roster.
“As I have stated multiple times during the offseason, the plan was to observe the working relationship and involvement between Eliot and Jerod and see how they managed our offseason personnel decisions,” Robert Kraft said in a statement. “Then, following the draft we would formally undertake a process for setting up the permanent structure of our personnel department. I have been impressed with Eliot’s management style and experience and I’m excited that he has agreed to take on this new position.”
Wolf was previously the director of scouting for the New England Patriots but has been serving as the franchise’s de facto general manager this offseason. It is a new era as the organization enters life without former Head Coach and Vice President of Player Personnel Bill Belichick.
“It is an honor to accept this position with the New England Patriots,” Wolf said in a statement. “I am grateful to the Kraft family for this opportunity and want to thank my family, especially my wife and children, for the support and strength they have given me as I move forward in my new role. I also want to thank all of the people I have worked with and learned from over the years.”

Eliot Wolf has been with the New England Patriots since 2020, serving as a consultant and then director of scouting. Prior to working with the Patriots, Wolf was the assistant general manager for the Cleveland Browns and worked in different roles with the Green Bay Packers for 14 seasons.
Wolf, the son of former Packers great GM Ron Wolf, recalled his first time in an NFL Draft War Room when he was 11 years old on a recent episode of the Adam Schefter Podcast. He told the story of when Green Bay traded back into the first round of the 1996 NFL Draft. Their target was Ray Lewis, who was even on the phone with Ron Wolf. The Baltimore Ravens decided to take Lewis with the selection right in front of Green Bay, and the Packers then picked Offensive Tackle John Michels out of USC.
